Operation

WARNING: ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing protection,
as well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.
WARNING: The power draw from the winch will cause the battery to drain excessively; it
is recommended to keep the vehicle's engine running during winch operation as otherwise
the vehicle may not start after use.
WARNING: Never use the winch to pull fixed or obstructed loads.
WARNING: ALWAYS check the condition of the Cable (13); even slight imperfections in the
Cable can greatly decrease the Cable's ability to carry load.
Load capacity
WARNING: DO NOT exceed the loading capacity of the winch (see specifications).
Be aware of dynamic loading; sudden loads may cause excessive strain on the winch.
Gradients will also impact the load capacity.
WARNING: DO NOT attempt to winch an object using the Cable (13) at its maximum
extension. There should always be one layer of Cable wrapped around the Drum (11). The
last layer of Cable is coloured red, and should not be extended off the Drum for winching
operations.
• The rated pull load is determined by the amount of Cable (13) wound around the Drum.

Using the winch
WARNING: ALWAYS wear suitable protective gloves when handling the winch. Not doing so
may result in cuts, or may cause harm to the operator.
WARNING: Never use the winch as a hoist or to tow another vehicle. Prolonged load on the
winch will cause damage to its internal components.
WARNING: Check the Cable (13) isn't damaged prior to use. Do not use the winch if there
is damage to the Cable, such as kinks or fraying.
Note: When the winch is not in use, disconnect the winch from the vehicles power supply.
The winch consistently draws power from the vehicles battery when connected. See
'Specification' for the power consumption without load. It is possible for the winch to drain
a battery and prevent starting of a vehicle if left connected, even without load.
1. Align the winching vehicle with the vehicle to be recovered in a direct straight line
Note: If it is not possible to align the vehicles in the direction of the desired pull, see
'Angle pull'.
2. Put the winch vehicle in neutral and engage the parking brake
Note: If the vehicle with the winch attached is supposed to remain stationary during
winching: Place wheel chocks in front of the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving
towards the object that is to be winched.
3. Release the Clutch Lever (12) and free-spool the Cable (13) outwards in the direction
of the load
WARNING: DO NOT attempt to winch an object using the Cable (13) at its maximum
extension. There should always be one layer of Cable wrapped around the Drum (11). The
last layer of Cable is coloured red and should not be extended off the Drum for winching
operations.
4. Securely attach the Hook (9) to the load, ensuring the gate in the Hook Opening (10)
is closed
5. Begin winching by pressing and holding the Retract Hook Button (4)
Note: Place a heavy rag over the Cable roughly halfway along the length once it is under
tension. This will help dampen recoil effects if the Cable or Hook were to break or detach
from the object abruptly.
6. Check to see whether the load is secure in its current position, apply wheel chocks or
securing straps to ensure the load remains in position when the Hook is detached
7. Once the object has been winched to the desired destination, extend the Cable slightly
by pressing the Extend Hook Button (5) to ease Hook removal
• Avoid allowing the Cable to bunch up on the Drum when retracting. Always ensure the
Cable is wound in neatly, and if possible retract the Cable in a straight line. Improper
winding may damage the Cable
• The Roller Fairlead (19) can accept winching angles of up to 45° in either direction,
on the horizontal axis (Fig. II). Angles of 15° in either direction can be accepted on the
vertical plane (Fig. III)

Angle pull
• An angle pull is a method of winching that is used when there is an obstruction
preventing a direct path for recovery
1. Coordinate a path for a direct line of recovery, ensuring to pick a sturdy object as an
angle point (Fig. IV)
Note: Two direct lines will need to be created; winch vehicle to snatch block (not included),
and snatch block to load, see (Fig. IV) for an example layout.
2. Use a pull strap (not included) to protect the object being used as the angle point. Wrap
the pull strap around the object and connect a snatch block to provide the route for
the Cable (13)
3. Put the vehicle in neutral and engage the parking brake
4. Release the Clutch Lever (12) and free spool the Cable (X) outwards, running it through
the snatch block
5. Follow steps 4-6 under 'Using the winch' to commence winching
Double line rigging
• By doubling the Cable (13) pulling the load (Fig. V), the load on the winch is decreased,
allowing for longer work times and increased pulling power
1. Find a secure point on the load to feed the Cable through. It may be necessary to use a
snatch block and pull strap (not included) to safely secure the Cable to the load
2. With the Cable fed through a suitable point on the load, direct the Cable back towards
the vehicle
3. Attach to a suitable anchor point
Note: It is recommended to use an anchor point other than the winching point, such as a
large tree or rock. This will prevent further stresses to the vehicle.
4. Follow steps 4-6 under 'Using the winch' to commence winching

Maintenance

WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any
inspection, maintenance or cleaning.
General inspection
• Before every use, inspect the overall condition of the winch. Check for damaged,
corroded, misaligned, worn or loose components. And any part of the tool that is integral
to safe operation. Do not use the winch if components are notably damaged; repairs
should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre
• Check regularly that all the fixing screws are tight
• Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs
should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies
to extension cords used with this tool
Cable inspection
WARNING: ALWAYS check the condition of the Cable (13) before every use. Even slight
imperfections in the Cable can greatly decrease the Cable's ability to carry load.
• The Cable cannot be pulled perfectly straight and displays imperfections along the
length. This signifies the Cable has been kinked and is no longer safe for use. Discard
and replace
• If the Cable strands are shown being partially detached from the main body of the cable,
this signifies the Cable is frayed. Discard and replace
• Lubricate the Cable frequently to prevent corrosion and excessive wear from external
elements
• Pay extra attention to the Hook (9) and the Cable condition around the Hook for
preliminary wear. Ensure the Hook Opening (10) mechanism is intact
Cable replacement
1. Disengage the clutch by turning the Clutch Lever (12) so it is in the raised position.
Pull out the Cable (13) to the full extent of its travel, and return the Clutch Lever to its
lowest position
2. Remove the Cable from the Drum (11) by unscrewing the hex screw using a 2.5mm
hex key (not provided)
3. Feed the new Cable through the Roller Fairlead and refit the end to the Drum (11),
ensuring correct orientation
Note: The Cable should be pulled inwards from the bottom of the Drum (Fig. I).
