Intended Use
Oscillating multi-tool for cutting and abrasive tasks by fast oscillation of a blade, file or sanding pad.
IMPORTANT: Not to be used for wet sanding.
NOT INTENDED FOR COMMERCIAL USE. The product must ONLY be used for its intended purpose.
Any use other than those mentioned in this manual will be considered a case of misuse. The
operator, and not the manufacturer, shall be liable for any damage or injury resulting from such
cases of misuse. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any modifications made to the product, nor
for any damage resulting from such modifications.
Unpacking Your Product
• Carefully unpack and inspect your product. Fully familiarise yourself with all its features and
functions.
• Ensure all parts of the product are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing or
damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this product.
Before Use
WARNING: Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or changing
any accessories or making any adjustments.
WARNING: Always wear suitable gloves when handling blades or other sharp accessories.
Fitting accessories
IMPORTANT: Some pre-assembly of the Sanding Sheet Backing Pad (9) may have happened
during the manufacturing process. The Backing Pad Washer (12) may be pre-installed into the
Sanding Sheet Backing Pad. The Mounting Bolt Washer (11) should not be used when fitting the
backing pad.
1. Use the supplied Hex Key (17) to loosen and remove the Accessory Mounting Bolt (10) and
Mounting Bolt Washer from the Accessory Mounting Flange (1) (Fig. I).
2. Position the accessory on to the Accessory Mounting Flange, so that the mounting holes in the
accessory engage with the pins on the Accessory Mounting Flange (Fig. II).
Note: The accessories can be mounted at various angles but must always engage with the pins on
the Accessory Mounting Flange (Fig. III).
3. Re-fit the Accessory Mounting Bolt and Mounting Bolt Washer.
IMPORTANT: If the Backing Pad Washer was not pre-installed during the manufacturing process,
ensure it is inserted into the Sanding Sheet Backing Pad instead of using the Mounting Bolt Washer
before attaching the Sanding Sheet Backing Pad to the tool. (See Fig. IV for assembly).
4. Before using the tool, check the accessory is securely fitted and the Accessory Mounting
Bolt is tight.
Note: Cranked accessories must be mounted with the crank pointing away from the tool (Fig. V).
Selecting the right grade of sanding sheet
Note: Always use good quality Sanding Sheets to maximise the quality of the finished task. Always
test the sheet on a scrap piece of material to determine whether the sanding sheet is suitable for
the intended task:
• Coarse (60 grit) for use on rough material
• Medium (120 grit) for smoothing off
• Fine (240 grit) for finishing
Note: DO NOT use Sanding Sheets designed for wet sanding.
Fitting sanding sheets to the sanding sheet
backing pad
This tool is supplied with a coarse (13) and medium (14) grit Sanding Sheet.
1. Select the required Sanding Sheet for your intended task.
2. The Sanding Sheet Backing Pad (9) and Sanding Sheets use a hook and loop system for
attachment.
3. Align the dust extraction holes in the Sanding Sheet with the holes in the Sanding Sheet Backing
Pad (Fig. VI).
Note: Failure to align the holes on the Sanding Sheet with the holes on the Sanding Sheet
Backing Pad will cause dust to build up on the Sanding Sheet and reduce the service life of the
Sanding Sheet.
4. Press the Sanding Sheet onto the Sanding Sheet Backing Pad to attach the Sanding Sheet.
Operation
WARNING: ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing protection, as well
as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.
WARNING: Anti-vibration gloves should be worn when operating this tool, to protect users from
the effects of vibration produced by the tool.
Switching ON & OFF
1. Hold the tool firmly by the Main Handle (5).
2. Slide the ON/OFF Switch (4) forward to the 'I' position to switch the tool ON (Fig. VII).
3. Slide the ON/OFF Switch backward to the '0' position to switch the tool OFF (Fig. VIII).
Adjusting the tool speed
• The oscillating speed of this multi-tool can be adjusted using the Variable Speed Control Dial
(6) (Fig. IX).
1. To increase tool speed, turn the Variable Speed Control Dial to a higher setting.
2. To decrease tool speed, turn the Variable Speed Control Dial to a lower setting.
Note: Adjust tool speed to best suit the work carried out, and to adapt to material requirements. Also
refer to the accessory manufacturer's instructions, with regards to tool speed selection.
WARNING: Allow the tool to reach the required speed before making contact with the
workpiece.
WARNING: Motor vents allow heat generated from the motor to escape the body of the tool and
must not become blocked. Dust, wood chippings and swarf can block the motor vents and cause the
tool to shut down. Swarf, created when cutting metal, can also cause permanent damage if it enters
the tool. Do not allow dust, wood chippings and swarf to build up. Use a vacuum cleaner to keep the
workspace clean, especially in confined areas, and when working with harmful substances.
WARNING: DO NOT inhale dust. Wear adequate breathing protection. Some dusts may be toxic
especially from man-made composite materials.
Sawing
• Ensure the saw blade is sharp and in good condition.
• Do not use saw blades that are damaged or deformed in any way.
• When sawing light building materials, follow the recommendations of the material suppliers.
• Apply plunge cuts to soft materials ONLY, for example wood, plasterboard etc.
• If using saw blades not designed for cutting metal, ensure there are no nails or screws
embedded in the workpiece. If necessary, remove embedded objects or use metal cutting saw
blades instead.
Sanding
• The removal rate and the sanding pattern are determined by the type of sanding sheet, the
preset oscillation rate and the applied pressure.
• Pay particular attention to applying uniform sanding pressure; this increases the working life of
the sanding sheets.
• Intensifying the sanding pressure will not lead to an increase of the sanding capacity, but to
increased wear of the machine and premature wear of the sanding sheet.
• For precise on-the-spot sanding of edges, corners and hard-to-reach areas, it is also possible to
work only with the tip or an edge of the sanding plate.
• A sanding sheet that has been used for sanding metal should not be used for sanding other
materials.
• Regularly brush down or vacuum the surface being sanded to ensure the sanding sheet is in
direct contact with the surface.
Scraping
• For scraping, select a high-speed setting.
• On soft surfaces (e.g. wood), work at a flat angle and apply only light pressure so that the scraper
does not cut into the surface.
