Rotate the wrench clockwise until you feel and hear
one click. Rotate again until you feel and hear a
second click.
5.
Remove the wrench from the tip.
6.
Remove the handpiece from the torque base.
Tip Disassembly Using Sterilizable
Torque Base
Use this procedure only if you are disassembling
the handpiece as part of changing tips on the
sterile field. If you are disassembling the handpiece
at the end of the surgical procedure, refer to the
CUSA Excel System User's Guide.
1. Locate the sterile torque base in which the
handpiece support color matches the color
on the handpiece connector (23 kHz — green;
36 kHz — blue). Put the handpiece in the
torque base so that the metal connecting body
fits snugly in the metal slot at the end of the
support.

Hold the handpiece securely in place in the torque
base.

Notice
To avoid product damage, NEVER hold the handpiece
in your hand while using the torque wrench to tighten
or loosen the tip.
3.
Match the colored ring of the sterile torque
wrench with the handpiece connector color or
handpiece support color on the torque base.
Slide the color coded side of the wrench over
the tip until the hex in the wrench engages the
hex of the tip.

Rotate the wrench counter-clockwise until the
tip is loose.
5.
Remove the wrench from the tip.
6.
Remove the handpiece from the tip torquing
base.
After the Surgical Procedure
Disassemble the handpiece following the
instructions in the CUSA System Excel User's
Guide
After the surgical procedure, take the following
actions:
• Clean, then sterilize the handpiece. For
instructions refer to the CUSA Excel System
User's Guide
• Discard the sterile torque wrench following
hospital protocols for biohazard waste
• Clean, then sterilize the sterilizable torque
base. Refer to the following instructions.
