10. Deciding Where to Install the Clock

Site the appliance in a dry location which is as dust free as possi-
ble.
It should be located in the vicinity of a mains socket outlet.
Ensure that the appliance is not exposed to direct sunlight.
The appliance should not be placed anywhere near a heat source
(eg. radiators) or near equipment that produces strong electro-
magnetic fields (eg. electric motors).
The installation site must allow proper DCF reception because
otherwise the clock can not be synchronised.
Reception of the DCF signal, like radio broadcast reception, is sig-
nificantly affected by location and position and any interference
signals from computers, TVs or microwave ovens, for instance.
Another possible reason for poor radio reception is rooms that
have walls made of reinforced concrete which attenuate the DCF
signal.

11. Initial Use

• Choose a suitable location.
• Fit the battery.
• Plug the low-voltage connector into the socket at the rear of
the clock.
• Fit the mains plug of the power supply unit into the socket
outlet.
• Wait until the synchronisation process has terminated.
• Activate the alarm and set the desired alarm time.

The appliance requires no maintenance apart from replacing the
battery. It should only be externally cleaned using a soft, dry
cloth or a brush. Under no circumstances should harsh cleaning
agents or chemical solutions be used because these may damage
the appliance.
