Handling
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet!
• The following unfavourable conditions should be avoided at the installation site
and during the transport:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat, direct sunlight
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows,
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loud-
speakers
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit. In addition, there
is a risk of a fatal electric shock.
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
• Ensure that the insulation for the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply! This
presents a danger to life!
• It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
• Any service or repair work must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
Cleaning
First, disconnect the housing from the computer (remove USB plug), and only then from the wall
plug transformer.
Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents as these may
result in discoloration of the enclosure.
Tips & Notes
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use.
You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system
may crash if the connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cab-
inet is switched off or the power unit is disconnected).
In Windows ME/XP/Vista an arrow symbol appears in the menu bar during USB operation
using which you can instruct Windows to safely disconnect the device and therefore stop the
data transmission in such a way that the connection cable can be unplugged without any risk.
• USB2.0 devices are backwards compatible. This means that the USB2.0 integrated in the hard
disk drive and the optical drive can also function with conventional „slow" USB1.1 ports, but
then only at the maximum USB1.1 speed (effective max. ca. 1MByte/s).
With USB2.0 several MBytes/s are possible, depending on the motherboard/PC.
• The blue LED flashes when the optical drive is turned on („ODD" switch, on the rear, in posi-
tion „ON".
If a SATA hard disc is installed, the red LED flashes during read/write access.
Disposal
Please dispose of the device when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements!
