Exchange of rod antenna for FMR231
Basic calibration of Micropilot M after exchange of rod antenna
The antenna, the microwave module and the signal processing electronics with the parameter memory determine the characteristics of the system and change the
measuring properties of the device, when exchanged. Therefore, a basic calibration of the instrument is mandatory after any exchange of modules.
To perform a basic calibration, the complete instrument with antenna has to be taken out of the process tank. It is advisable to fix the device in a clamp or test holder
and to power it from an external power supply.
Unlock service matrix and customer parameters: in the group selection of the operating matrix,
1
select level "diagnostics" and enter code 300 in the "unlock" field (matrix position 0A4).
Otherwise on protection level WHG in matrix position 018 change to standard.
In the operating matrix group selection --> system parameters--> field "distance unit" set the
2
distance unit, as desired, to either meters or feet (matrix position 0C5).
In the service matrix group selection --> service --> mapping --> field "factory map valid" select
3
2 = reset (matrix position 0D34). Any existing factory map will be deleted.
In the service matrix group selection --> service --> module --> field "HF module"
4
(matrix position 0D71) select the correct HF module.
In the service matrix group selection --> service --> antenna table --> field "antenna type"
5
(matrix position 0D81) select the correct antenna.
In the service matrix group selection --> service --> antenna table --> field "inactive length"
6
(matrix position
0D82) enter the inactive length of the antenna (for rod antennas only)
In the service matrix group selection --> service --> antenna table --> field "total length"
7
(matrix position 0D83)
enter the total length of the antenna
8
In the operating matrix group selection --> extended calibration --> submenu selection • common
--> field "blocking distance"
9
Prepare recording of factory map: in the service matrix group selection
--> service --> mapping --> set field "factory map valid" to "on" (matrix position 0D34).
In the operating matrix group selection --> extended calibration --> select field "check distance"
10
and "4 = manual" (matrix position 051).
11
In the operating matrix group selection --> extended calibration --> submenu selection • mapping
field "range of mapping" (matrix position 052) enter the range to be mapped (max. range is 10 m).
In the operating matrix group selection --> extended calibration --> field "start mapping"
12
(matrix position 053) activate mapping (the process takes a few seconds).
Procedure to determine exact Z-distance: The electrical Z-distance is
13
assumed from the microwave module to the antenna
(default distance 700 mm).
Rod antenna or horn antenna
(e.g. 3.00 m) a metal reflector (e.g. metal sheet)
(Begin of measuring range = lower edge of the flange, see drawing)
Pipe
antenna: Position the end of the pipe direct at the metal reflector
Pipe antenna: Enter in the operating matrix field "empty calibration (Pos. 005)" the
14
pipe length + 200 mm
All other antenna types:
In the service matrix in the group selection --> service -->
(matrix position 0D04) read measured value and calculate. Enter newly determined Z-distance in
service level --> module in field "zero distance" (matrix position 0D72).
Pipe antenna Finally enter the actual pipe length in the operating matrix field
:
"empty calibration (Pos. 005)".
Install instrument into process. Recording of customer map: In the operat. matrix group selection
15
--> extended calibration --> field "start mapping" (matrix position 053) activate mapping
(the process takes a few seconds).
16
Lock the operating matrix in the group selection --> diagnostics --> field "unlock code" (matrix
field 0A4) enter 100 (for PROFIBUS and FF enter 2457).
After this procedure, all further set up steps have to be performed: full- / empty calibration,
safety settings, linearisation, etc.
