Magnetostrictive linear position sensor – Set
5
Installation
5.1
Preparing for installation
The BTL is mounted directly on the moving object to be
measured (ve.g. on the trolley of a crane). The position
magnets are mounted on a fixed base along the motion
path of the object. Together with the object, the BTL is
moved along the position magnet track and its position is
continuously updated.
A reversed arrangement of the elements of the system is
possible if the BTL is mounted on a fixed base and the
position magnets are attached to moving objects. Then the
moving object can be identified by the position magnets
attached to it and positioned relative to the active length of
the stationary BTL.
5.2
Installing the BTL
For the dimensions of the BTL, see BTL7-V50T
user's guide.
For information on the retaining clips, see
BTL7-V50T user's guide.
Example 1: Mounting on a T-beam
The magnetostrictive linear position sensor (BTL) is
attached to the moving part of the plant (e.g. to the trolley).
The standard retaining clips can be used for fastening.
If mounting the BTL on a magnetizable element
(e.g. structural steel), a distance of ≥ 20 mm
between BTL and the element must be observed
for error-free function. Non-magnetizable material
such as plastic, aluminum or stainless steel is
suitable as spacer material.

Example 2: Mounting on a strut profile from Bosch
Rexroth
The mounting with the retaining clips can also be done on
a strut profile from Bosch Rexroth.
For example, the strut profile 50x100L has a groove
spacing of 50 mm suitable for the retaining clips. The
retaining clips can be fastened in this profile with
corresponding sliding blocks.
