3.4 SEEDER POSITION

It is important to adjust the position of the planting unit correctly
on the supporting equipment when in the field.
The working depth of the machine is determined by the position
of the levelling rollers (see the Rotating Harrow Operation and
Maintenance manual).

3.4.1 ADJUSTING THE SEEDING DEPTH

To obtain a good level at which sprouts come out, the seed needs
to be placed at the right depth into the seeding bed.
The pressure of furrower and the seeding depth may be regulated
by a centralized hydraulic control (Fig. 18). During operation, the
pressure of the furrower can be increased in areas in which the
ground presents more resistance to penetration.
The pins (A-B, Fig. 18) act as a limit stop for the hydraulic cylinder.
When there is no pressure in the hydraulic system, the lower
limit stop (A) determines the rest position of the cylinder during
normal operation. When, on the other hand, the system is
pressurized, the cylinder stops at the height of the upper limit
stop (B) increasing the pressure of the furrowers on the ground.
Each hole on the dial (C, Fig. 18) determines the stopping position
of the cylinder, decreasing or increasing the pressure of the
furrowers, positioning the pins downwards or upwards
respectively.
Adjusting the normal pressure of the furrowers
- Pressurize the hydraulic cylinder.
- Fit the lower pin (A, Fig. 18) in one of the holes on the dial (C)
and secure it by means of a spring pin.
- De-pressurize the hydraulic cylinder.
Increasing the pressure of the furrowers
During operation, the pressure of the furrower can be increased
in areas in which the ground presents more resistance to
penetration. This can be achieved by positioning the upper pin
so that, when the cylinder is pressurized, the load on the springs
is increased. The position of the upper pin determines the
maximum pressure of the furrowers.
springs is increased. The position of the upper pin determines
the maximum pressure of the furrowers.
- De-pressurize the hydraulic cylinder.
- Fit the pin (E, Fig. 18) in one of the holes on the dial (C) and
secure it by means of a spring pin.
You can further adjust the pressure, separately, changing the
position of the tie-rod (B Fig. 18).
With Suffolk coulters a spring is available as an accessory (E,
Fig. 19); this spring enables the weight of each element to be
reset when the spring (F) is completely unloaded.
Disc coulter
With disc coulters is possible to assemble a rear rubber wheel
(Fig. 20), which allows to check the seeding depht. Thanks to a
series of holes, you can set the same seeding depht for all the
coulter elements (Fig. 20).
A) minimum depht: 0 ÷ 0,5 cm
B) maximum depht: 8 cm
IMPORTANT: we advise against the use of the rear wheel on
moist soils.
