Safety Notes
These photoelectric sensors may not be used in
applications where personal safety depends on
proper function of the devices (not safety
designed per EU machine guideline). Read
these operating instructions carefully before
putting the device into service.
Caution! Laser beam!
Glare and irritation of the eyes.
DO NOT LOOK INTO THE LASER BEAM!
Use of Controls or adjustment or performance of
procedures other than those specified herein
may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
Notice!
Do not try to open the module enclosure.
There are no userserviceable components
inside.
The CE Marking confirms that our products
conform to the EU Directives 2014/30/EU
(EMC) and the EMC Law.
In our EMC Laboratory, which is accredited by
the DATech for Testing of Electromagnetic
Compatibility, proof has been documented that
these Balluff products meet the EMC require
ments of the harmonized standard EN 6094752.

Application
Only for NFPA 79 applications (machines with a supply
voltage of max. 600 volts). Device shall be connected only
by using any R/C (CYJV2) cord, having suitable ratings.
Display- and Operating elements
1. Yellow OUTPUT LED (receiver)
2. Potentiometer (receiver)

Yellow LED
Output function indicator (receiver only): The yellow LED
ON indicates that the output is active.
Potentiometer
The potentiometer can be used to adjust the sensitivity
and the operating distance.

Installation
Caution!
Do not stare into the light beam.
The sensor must be installed as to prevent a direct line of
eyesight to the light source, even during operation.
Laser protection regulations: No additional protective mea
sures are necessary for operation (EN 608251:2014).
The emitters (not illustrated) have the same dimensions.

Test function (only BOS 12M-XT-...)
The test function is used for preventive function monitoring
of the sensor.
A signal on the test input of the emitter (pin 4) turns the
emitter off.
The receiver output must switch each time a voltage of
10...30 V DC is applied to the test input. If the output does
not switch, the sensors are contaminated or not well
alignet. If the test input will not be used, leave Pin 4 open
or connect pin 4 to 0 V.
Setting
1. Position the emitter and receiver opposite each other
at the desired distance.
2. Turn the potentiometer clockwise until it reaches the
positive stop (maximum sensitivity and longest range).
3. Determine the on and off switching point of the output
(yellow LED): move the emitter or receiver so that the
yellow LED turns on and off again.
4. Install the sensor in the middle of the two determined
switch points.
In order to detect very small targets, turn the potentiome
ter counterclockwise until it reaches the negative stop
(reduces sensitivity).
