Encryption:
Encryption of programmes is a technical procedure that ensu-
res only a limited audience of listeners or viewers has access
to these programmes. Various systems are used to achieve
this, including Irdeto, Cryptoworks, Seca, Viaccess etc..
Frequency:
Physical measurement, indicates the number of cycles or
oscillations per second, the unit of measurement is the Hertz
(Hz).
QAM:
Quadratic Amplitude Modulation: Modulation procedure with
phase scanning used to transmit digital signals in cable net-
works.
SCART:
Connector standard used for television sets, video recorders,
receivers and other home electronics equipment to transmit
Audio (sound) and Video (Picture) signals (AV).
Signal:
General term used to describe data, for information, a sound
or an image that is altered electrically in order to be transmit-
ted over a distance, or to connect various appliances with
each other.
Software update:
Digital television is a new medium, providing not only impro-
ved sound and picture quality, but also the option of providing
interactive services. These new services are constantly being
developed and improved by providers. To utilise these servi-
ces, it may be necessary to occasionally update the software
of the digital receiver.
