For your convenience and for extra safety, this appliance has been provided with an automatic shut-
off function. When you plug it in the wall socket for the first time, it is possible that the appliance
and the power-on light go on. In this case the appliance will switch itself off within approximately 30
seconds.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled
properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on
scientific evidence available today.

preparing for use

Put the appliance on a flat and stable surface.

Put the plug in an earthed wall socket.
It is possible that the appliance is switched on (light goes on) when you put the plug in the wall
socket. If this is the case, the appliance cannot be switched off manually but will be switched off
automatically after approximately 30 seconds (light goes out).
You can store excess cord by pushing it into the opening at the back of the coffee
,
maker (Fig. 2).
Prevent the cord from coming into contact with hot surfaces.
Flushing the appliance

Fill the water tank half full with water and put the jug in place. (Fig. 3)

Switch the appliance on by pressing the power-on button. The light goes on. Let the appliance
run until the water tank is completely empty (Fig. 4).
The appliance switches off automatically after flushing.

Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start brewing coffee.

Fill the water tank with water (Fig. 5).
The graduations on the left are for large cups (120 ml) (Fig. 6).

The graduations on the right are for small cups (80 ml).

Open the filter holder (Fig. 7).

Take a paper filter (type 1x4 or no. 4) and fold the sealed edges to prevent tearing and
folding (Fig. 8).

Put the filter in the filter holder (Fig. 9).
Note: Some versions come with a permanent filter. In this case you should not use paper filters.

Put pre-ground coffee (filter-fine grind) in the filter (Fig. 10).

For large cups: use one heaped measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.

For small cups: use one level measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.

Close the filter holder. (Fig. 11)

Put the jug in place (Fig. 12).
Put the jug in the appliance with the handle pointing straight forward or to the right. Make sure the
lid of the jug is in 'closed/brewing' position r.
