Working instructions for electronic components
INFORMATION
The casing and the electronics cable should be removed when working on the orthosis. In order to do so, discon
nect the cable directly on the E-MAG knee joint (see fig. 38, see fig. 39, see fig. 40, see fig. 41).

Screw the casing onto the transfemoral socket. Finally, insert the battery and verify all functions. Provide the user
with the instructions for use and quick start guide, and explain the functions of the E-MAG knee joint upon delivery.
Be sure to point out the semi-annual maintenance interval. After fully charging and subsequently installing the bat
tery, the system is ready for operation.
4 Working instructions for electronic components

4.1 Control electronics

The electronic control unit measures the position of the orthosis during the gait cycle and unlocks the joint prior to
toe-off. Prior to heel strike at the end of the swing phase, the orthosis knee joint is locked in the extended position
so the patient can step down safely. In order to determine the optimum joint activation point for the patient, the
electronics are equipped with an auto-calibration feature. This feature must be activated by the orthopaedic techni
cian during the initial patient fitting. Test mode, which provides acoustic feedback for joint activity while walking, is
useful for the technician in order to establish the settings.
Two switching options are available to the patient. The patient activates / deactivates the sitting and locking func
tion with two separate buttons.
