CLEANING
FIRST UNPLUG THE CORD FROM THE SOCKET
Rinse the pot and the filter holder. These parts are not dishwasher-safe. Use a damp cloth to wipe off the
outside of the machine.
DESCALING
Regular descaling will help prolong the life of the coffeemaker. It is a good idea to descale around once
a month. If the local water supply is especially hard, twice a month is recommended. Hard water is more
than 20° DH (a German scale used to measure water hardness). Your water company can tell you the
degree of hardness. You should immediately descale when the appliance:
• Makes gurgling noises;
• Takes longer than usual to brew;
• Still has water in the reservoir after brewing.
Nearly all commercially available descaling products are appropriate for use. Check the package to see
whether the product is suitable for coffeemakers. Never use any product containing hydrochloric or
sulphuric acid. These are not suitable for descaling.
To do so, proceed as follows:
• First allow the appliance to cool down sufficiently.
• Fill the reservoir with cold water.
• Add the amount of descaling agent indicated on the package.
• Place a filter paper in the permanent filter, not forgetting to put the pot in place.
• Switch on the appliance.
• Once about 2 cups have flowed through, switch off the appliance and let it stand for a
half-hour to allow the descaling agent to work.
• Switch on the appliance again. After all of the water with descaling agent has flowed through,
brew clean water through it three times to rinse away any remaining traces of descaling agent.
Note: Let the appliance cool down for about three minutes in between rinse cycles. The warranty does
not apply to appliances with calcified build-up.

USING THE KETTLE

The kettle should be used exclusively for boiling water; never use it with other liquids or ingredients.
First boil a full pot of water to clean the pot and discard this water.
Always fill the pot between the minimum and maximum level markers. If insufficient water is used,
the kettle may switch off, with too much water it may boil over. Always remove the pot when filling it
to avoid water dripping into the base.
Switch it on by using the on/off button under the handle. The indicator lamp will be illuminated.
Once the water has boiled, the on/off switch returns automatically to the off position.
If desired, the water can be boiled again by pressing the button once more. Always wait
for 30 seconds after it has switched off automatically.
If the appliance is accidentally switched on when empty, the boil-dry protection will auto-
matically switch it off. Adding water will then cool the boil-dry protection mechanism
enabling you to use the kettle as normal.
Note:
• Do not remove the pot from its base until it has switched off automatically.
• Do not fill the pot higher than the MAX level indicator or boiling water may spray out.
