2 Safety Notes
The unit and the AC/AC adaptor correspond to the
directive for electromagnetic compatibility 89/336/
EEC. The AC/AC adaptor additionally corresponds
to the low voltage directive 73/23/EEC.

2 Hinweise für den sicheren Gebrauch
Das Gerät und der Steckertrafo entsprechen der
Richtlinie 89/336/EWG für elektromagnetische Ver-
träglichkeit. Der Steckertrafo entspricht zusätzlich
der Niederspannungsrichtlinie 73/23/EWG.
Der Steckertrafo wird mit lebensgefährlicher Netz-
spannung (230 V~) versorgt. Nehmen Sie deshalb
niemals selbst Eingriffe im Steckertrafo vor. Durch
unsachgemäßes Vorgehen besteht die Gefahr
eines elektrischen Schlages. Außerdem erlischt
beim Öffnen des Steckertrafos oder des Gerätes
jeglicher Garantieanspruch.
Beachten Sie auch unbedingt die folgenden Punkte:
Das Gerät und der Steckertrafo sind nur zur Ver-
wendung im Innenbereich geeignet. Schützen Sie
sie vor Feuchtigkeit und Hitze (zulässiger Einsatz-
temperaturbereich 0 °C bis 40 °C).
Auch wenn das Gerät ausgeschaltet ist, hat der
an eine Steckdose angeschlossene Steckertrafo
einen geringen Stromverbrauch.
Nehmen Sie das Gerät nicht in Betrieb bzw. zie-
hen Sie sofort den Steckertrafo aus der Steck-
dose, wenn:
1. sichtbare Schäden am Steckertrafo oder am
Gerät vorhanden sind,
2. nach einem Sturz oder ähnlichem der Verdacht
auf einen Defekt besteht,
3. Funktionsstörungen auftreten.
Lassen Sie das Gerät bzw. den Steckertrafo in
jedem Fall in einer Fachwerkstatt reparieren.
Wird das Gerät bzw. der Steckertrafo zweckent-
fremdet, nicht richtig angeschlossen, falsch bedient
oder nicht fachgerecht repariert, kann für eventu-
elle Schäden keine Haftung übernommen werden.
Verwenden Sie für zum Reinigen nur ein trockenes,
weiches Tuch, niemals Chemikalien oder Wasser.
Sollen der Mikrofonvorverstärker und der Stecker-
trafo endgültig aus dem Betrieb genommen wer-
den, übergeben Sie sie zur Entsorgung einem ört-
lichen Recyclingbetrieb.
The AC/AC adaptor uses dangerous mains volt-
age (230 V~). To prevent a shock hazard do not
open the AC/AC adaptor. Leave servicing to auth-
orized skilled personnel only. Furthermore, any
guarantee claim expires if the AC/AC adaptor or
the unit has been opened.
It is necessary to observe in any case the following
items:
The unit and the AC/AC adaptor are suitable for
indoor use only. Protect them against humidity
and heat (admissible ambient temperature range
0 – 40 °C).
Even if the unit is switched off, the AC/AC adaptor
connected to the mains has a low power con-
sumption.
Do not take the unit into operation or immediately
take the AC/AC adaptor out of the mains socket if:
1. damage at the unit or AC/AC adaptor can be
seen,
2. a defect might have occurred after a drop or
similar accident,
3. there are malfunctions.
The unit resp. the AC/AC adaptor must in any
case be repaired by authorized skilled personnel.
If the unit resp. the AC/AC adaptor is used for pur-
poses other than originally intended, if it is not
connected or operated correctly or not repaired in
an expert way, there is no liability for possible
damage.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth. Do not use
any chemicals or water.
If the microphone preamplifier and the AC/AC
adaptor are to be put out of operation definitively,
they must be disposed of in a local recycling plant.
3 Applications
The MPA-4002 is a 4-channel microphone preampli-
fier in low noise semiconductor technique to be used
on the stage and in the sound recording studio as
well as for home recording and multimedia applica-
tions.
3 Einsatzmöglichkeiten
Der MPA-4002 ist ein 4-Kanal-Mikrofonvorverstär-
ker in Low Noise-Halbleitertechnik für den Einsatz
auf der Bühne und im Tonstudio sowie im Home-
recording- und Multimedia-Bereich.
Jeder Kanal ist mit einem symmetrischen XLR-
Mikrofoneingang und einem symmetrischen XLR-
Line-Ausgang ausgestattet. Zusätzlich kann das
verstärkte Mikrofonsignal an einem Stereo-Line-
Ausgang abgenommen oder einem durchgeschleif-
tem Stereo-Line-Signal zugemischt werden.
Das Gerät besitzt einen weiteren Stereo-Master-
ausgang für die Signalsumme der vier Stereo-Line-
Ausgänge. So ist es möglich, das Gerät entweder
mit vier völlig separaten Kanälen oder als 4-Kanal-
Mischer zu betreiben.
4 Aufstellmöglichkeiten
Der Mikrofonvorverstärker ist speziell für die Mon-
tage in ein Rack (482 mm/19") ausgelegt. Er kann
bei Bedarf aber auch frei aufgestellt werden. Für
den Rackeinbau wird eine Höhe von 1 HE (Höhen-
einheit) = 44,45 mm benötigt.
5 Inbetriebnahme
Die folgenden Anleitungsschritte zum Anschluß und
zur Bedienung des Gerätes beziehen sich auf den
ersten Kanal CHANNEL 1 und sind für die übrigen
Kanäle entsprechend durchzuführen.
5.1 Gerät anschließen
Der Mikrofonvorverstärker sollte ausgeschaltet sein,
wenn Anschlüsse zu anderen Geräten vorgenom-
men bzw. verändert werden.
1) Den Steckertrafo an Buchse (9) anschließen.
2) Das Mikrofon an den Eingang (14) anschließen.

The unit has a further stereo master output for
the signal sum of the four stereo line outputs. Thus it
is possible to operate the unit either with four com-
pletely separate channels or as a 4-channel mixer.
4 Installation
The microphone preamplifier has especially been
designed for mounting in a rack (482 mm/19"). If
required, it can also be used as a free standing unit.
For the rack installation a height of 1 rack space =
44.45 mm is necessary.
5 Setting Into Operation
The following instructions for connecting and operat-
ing the unit are for the first channel CHANNEL 1 and
should be followed correspondingly for all other
channels.
5.1 Connecting the unit
The microphone preamplifier should be switched off
before making resp. changing connections to other
units.
1) Connect the AC/AC adaptor to the jack (9).
2) Connect the microphone to the input (14). The
XLR socket has a lock which can be released by
pushing down the PUSH lever and at the same
time pulling out the plug.
3) Connect the following unit with line level input
(e. g. amplifier, mixer) to the output (13).
4) It is additionally possible to mix the amplified
microphone signal to a stereo line channel:
If the microphone signal is going to be mixed to
the stereo line signal of a further signal source,
connect the source to the input jacks (12).
