For the "double door" freezer compartment proceed as follows:
- 24 hours before defrosting set the thermostat knob onto the high numbers to ractivate
fast freezing, to lower the temperature of the food;
- Wrap frozen foods in sheets of special food paper and place them in a refrigerator or in
a cool place;
- Set the thermostat to "0";
- Leave the door open;
- Hasten defrosting by using the spatula provided with the appliance (do not use knives,
sharp instruments or sources of heat).
When defrosting is complete, clean and dry the interior and replace the accessories (gril-
les, ice trays, etc.) and the conserved and frozen foodstuffs. Then close the door or lid,
reset the thermostat and let the appliance work for 3/4 hours with the thermostat at the
coldest position or with fast freeze inserted.
Should the layer of frost in the freezing compartment exceed 5 mm it is necessary to
defrost to keep the performance of the refrigerator unchanged.
Important: in double door refrigerators with a drainage hole, place a tray on the upper gril-
le of the refrigerator compartment for collecting melted water, and remove the plug on the
bottom of the freezer compartment. Naturally this latter must be replaced when defrosting
is complete, see fig. 2.
CLEANING
To prevent the formation of unpleasant smells, it is recommended that the inside of the
appliance be cleaned periodically, at least two or three times a year.
a) Before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance, disconnect the appliance from the
power supply by pulling out the plug (it is not enough to set the thermostat control to "0").
b) Remove all food and ice cubes from the refrigerator.
c) Wait until the frost has melted off the evaporator.
d) Clean the interior of the refrigerator using lukewarm water into which have been dissol-
ved one or two spoonfuls of bicarbonate of soda, rinse and dry. IMPORTANT: do not use
detergents, abrasives or soaps.
e) Before putting food back into the refrigerator let it work for at least one hour.
f) Clean the drain spout every so often using the relevant tool (fig. 4) which can be left
inserted in the drain spout.
When the appliance is to be out of use for a long periods, after a thorough cleaning it
should be left unplugged and with it's doors partially open.
SERVICING
For any repairs use only Service Centres recommended by the manufacturer and insist
that only original spares be used. Non-observance of the above could prejudice the safety
of the appliance. If your refrigerator does not work, or if it does not work properly, check
these points before making a Service call.
1) Is power getting to the socket to which the refrigerator is connected? Try it with a lamp.
2) Is the connecting plug not plugged into the socket? Plug it in.
3) Is the thermostat perhaps at position "0"? Turn it to position 3.
4) Have you let too much frost accumulate on the evaporator (more than 4 to 5 mm)?
Defrost it (see "Defrosting").
5) Has the food been badly placed inside the freezer, hindering free circulation of air?
6) Can air circulate freely around the condenser behind the appliance? Move it further
away the wall.
