Point the scanner's read window toward a flat
surface and squeeze the trigger. The "Laser ON"
indicator will illuminate, and a laser beam will be
projected from the read window to help "aim" the
scanner. The beam must cross the entire label to
read a barcode label correctly. For best results,
hold the scanner at a slight angle to the barcode
(other than perpendicular). Refer to Figure 8:
1 Targeting Beam
2 INCORRECT Scan—beam does not cross entire label
3 CORRECT Scan—beam crosses entire label
4 CORRECT Scan—scanner held at angle to barcode
5 INCORRECT Scan—scanner perpendicular to barcode
When the scanner successfully reads a barcode, the
green "Good Read" indicator will illuminate.
Additionally, when there is communication activity,
the Base Station will indicate this activity by flashing
its "TX/RX" LED.
Upon a successful read, the scanner may also sound
up to three "good read" beeps:
Beep #1 = Good read
Beep #2 = Good transmission from scanner to Base
Station
Beep #3 = Good transmission from Base Station to
host
Since the beep setting is a user-configurable feature,
your scanner may be set to all, none, or any
combination of the above tone settings (see the
SP400RF Programming Guide R44-1027 for details
about configurable features). The factory default
setting is for only tones one and three to be
sounded (indicating a good read, and good
transmission from the Base Station to the host).
