To achieve finer grinding results, prepare the stone
using the Stone preparer. Thereby you increase the
graining from 250 to approximately 1000. The SP
is available as an accessory from your scheppach
dealer.
The height of the Universal Support can be set ex-
actly with the knurled nut attached to the Universal
Support.
Sharpening (Fig. 7)
Never sharpen against the direction of grinding! Oth-
erwise, the tool will cut into the leather!
Impregnate the leather disc using weak machine oil.
Then apply abrasive paste on the leather disc. Turn
on the device, and distribute the abrasive paste by
pressing the ground tool with circular movements on
the wheel.

Then, you start again with a new layer of machine
oil, followed by new abrasive paste. These measures
increase the lifetime of the leather and the quality of
your tools.
Expert tip: You can work in the free-handed mode
for the trimming itself. You achieve a more precise
result if you keep the tool in the device in the position
in which you ground the tool.
With the star grip screw on the rear side of the ma-
chine housing (see Figure 2), you can set the contact
pressure on the friction wheel. This is necessary if
when truing the honing wheel stops.
Grinding Using the 40 Device for Axes (Fig. 8)
For axes with a length of up to 170 mm. Larger axes
are ground without using a grinding rest on the tool
rest.
The device consists of a wedge-shaped rest into
which the axe clamps if you grind against the direc-
tion of the cutting edge.
If required, the grinding disc can be removed to pro-
vide more space for the handle.
Sharpening:
Always sharpen against the direction of the cutting
edge.
Grinding using the 60 device for knives
(Fig. 9 + 10)
The 60 device is designed for knives with a cutting
edge of approximately 40 - 100 mm and for drawing
knives.
The edge angle is set using the tool rest and the ad-
justing ring. The grinding rest consists of a support,
a clamping plate with a locking screw and a binding
screw, and an adjusting ring.
Clamping the knife:
The clamping button (2) must be completely re-
leased. Clamp the knife using the locking screw (1).
Then fix it with the binding screw. The knife is now
tightly clamped into the rest.
The edge angle at the knife tip depends on the dis-
tance to the handle and the tip at which the knife is
clamped.

If the knife is correctly clamped, the edge angle is the
same over the entire blade. Use the edge angle of
the previous grinding process or roughly set the edge
angle using the setting gauge with the tool rest.
Thefineadjustmentcanbeperformedusingthead-
justing ring (3) on the device.
Sharpening:
Always sharpen with the direction of rotation.
