5. Technical terms

2WD, 4WD
2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive
ABC piston and cylinder
ABC stands for aluminium, brass and chrome. The piston is made of aluminium which has little heat expansion and light weight. The cylinder is made of brass
with a chrome-plated running surface.
Axle leg
This is where the wheel axle turns. The steering arms are located at the front axle legs.
Steering knuckle pin
Steering axle of the wheel. Connects the axle leg so that it is pivotable with the axle leg support (between top and bottom transverse control arm).
Spindle
The axis onto which the wheel is screwed and around which the wheel turns.
Ackermann effect
To adjust the progressivity of the steering angle of the wheel inside the curve (Ackermann steer angle), the steering links can be reset to other steering points
both at the steering arms and at the steering plate.
Chassis
The "frame" of the vehicle, strictly speaking only the bottom support plate.
CVD drive shaft
A shaft which on one side engages the attachment on the differential with a steel pin and which on the other side is connected to the axle without tolerance via
a cardan joint, resulting in low wear. In this way, the wheel can be actuated even at a great steering angle (strongly angled shaft).
Shock tower
The upper end of the shock absorbers of an axle on the right and left is screwed to the shock tower at the front or at the rear. The shock absorbers are thus
interconnected via the shock tower.
Differential
Differential gear. Equalizes different revolution speeds, e.g. between the wheel on the inside of a curve and the one on the outside.
Throttle stop screw
Regulates the minimum air supply to the carburettor in idle speed.
Receiver
Receives and "translates" the control signals of the remote control (direction and intensity) for the servo and the speed controller. The transmitter crystal which
is adjusted to the receiver crystal ensures perfect communication between transmitter and receiver. The transmitter crystal and the receiver crystal are adjusted
to each other so that signals of transmitters operated at the same time have no influence on the receiver (this model).
Throttle/brake servo
This servo controls the slide carburettor as well as the disc brakes.
Transmission
Transmits the rotational speed of the engine in the drive section to the rotational speed of the driven wheels. The transmission ratio (rotational speed of engine/
wheel rotation) gives information about the final speed and the torque.
Main jet needle
Regulates the fuel supply to the carburettor.
Steering servo
Servo motor that carries out a mechanical control functions via a lever. This servo steers via the steering links. A servo saver integrated into the servo control
lever protects the servo from damage that can be caused by hard shocks to the wheels via the steering links at the servo transmission.
Air filter
The air filter is made of foam. It prevents dust or dirt from entering the carburettor or the engine through the suction hole.
Oil pressure shock absorber
The shock absorber consists of a coil spring with a piston in an oil-filled cylinder running up and down at the centre. The coil spring is supported by a plate on the
end of the piston rod and a knurled nut or a distance ring on the outside of the cylinder. The spring preload can be adjusted by turning the knurled nut or by
distance rings of various thicknesses. The spring absorbs the travel of the axle halves when travelling in uneven terrain. The bounding and rebounding is
dampened by the piston moving through the oil. By selecting different dampening oils, the dampening properties can be varied. The shock absorber is mounted
between the shock tower at the top and the lower transverse link. Deflection travel is limited with the help of a plastic sleeve.
Transverse link
Full-floating axle transverse to the direction of motion, connects the wheel suspension (spindle, axle leg and steering knuckle pin) with the chassis.
