• Use only outdoor rated extension leads that are so
marked. Keep the extension cord away from heat, oil
and sharp edges.
• Ensure that the extension lead is secured in a manner
that prevents it from disconnecting from the plug whilst
in use.
• Keep all the air intakes and the blower tube free of dust,
lint, hair and other material that may cause a reduction
in air flow.
• Keep a balanced and stable stance while using the
tool.
• Do not switch on the tool in enclosed or poorly ventilated
spaces or in the presence of flammable and/or explo-
sive substance such as liquids, gases and powders.
• Do not get distracted and always concentrate on what
you are doing. Use common sense. Never operate the
tool when you are tired, sick or under the influence of
alcohol or other drugs.
• Do not operate this tool with long loose hair or loose
fitting jewellery. Tie long loose hair back and remove
loose fitting jewellery.
• Do not allow the tool to pick up any burning or smolder-
ing materials like ashes, cigarette butts etc.
• Do not attempt to pick up breakable objects like glass,
plastics, china etc.
• Do not use in mulching operation without the collection
bag fitted.
• Do not use the tool in either the mulcher or the blower
mode on gravel surfaces.
• Only operate the tool during broad daylight or with
adequate artificial light.
• When the tool is not in use, store it in a dry place and
out of reach of children.
• After use, disconnect the tool from the power supply and
inspect for wear and damage. If you have the slightest
doubts, contact an authorized service centre.
• Only use the tool according to the instructions given in
this manual.
• Check regularly that screws are tight.
• Use only spare parts and accessories recommended by
the manufacture.
• Do not try to repair the tool or access internal parts.
Contact authorized service centers only.
• It is recommended that the tool should be used with a
Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current
of no more than 30 mA.
ASSEMBLY
UNPACKING
• Carefully remove the product and any accessories from
the box.
• Inspect the product carefully to make sure no breakage
or damage occurred during shipping.
• Do not discard the packing material until you have care-
fully inspected and satisfactorily operated the product.
• If any parts are damaged or missing, please call your
Makita service centre for assistance.
The tool is supplied with some components not as-
sembled. To assemble them, proceed as follows:
WARNING:
• To prevent serious personal injury, make sure the switch
is in the OFF position, it is unplugged, and the impellers
have stopped before attaching or removing tubes.

ASSEMBLE AS A BLOWER (Fig. 3)
• Slide blower tube forward until the notched areas on the
blower housing click into the slots on the tube.
ASSEMBLE AS A MULCHER (optional accessory)
(Fig. 2)
• Slide the front and rear mulcher tubes together until
locked. (See Fig. 2.)
• Loosen the thumb screw and open the mulching gate.
(See Fig. 2.1.)
• Insert the wedge part of the mulcher tube into the
pocket. (See Fig. 2.2.) Fix the mulcher tube by
tightening the thumb screw. (See Fig. 2.3.)
• To remove mulcher tubes, follow the steps above in
reverse.
• Insert the bag adaptor into the blower outlet. Lock the
bag adaptor with the lock button. To remove the bag,
simply press lock button and remove bag. (See Fig. 4.)
NOTE:
• It may be necessary to remove the blower tube or
mulcher tubes to clear a blocked tube or impeller.
INSTALLING BAG WITH SHOULDER STRAP
(Fig. 4)
• While standing in the operating position adjust the
length to fit the operator's size. Pull the tab to lengthen,
pull the strap to shorten.
OPERATION
CONNECTING THE POWER CORD (Fig. 5)
• Secure the extension cord to the motor housing using
the cord retainer. This prevents accidental removal of
the electrical cord.
• Connect the female end of the extension cord with the
plug of the unit.
STARTING/STOPPING THE BLOWER/MULCHER
(Fig. 6)
• To turn on, slide the power/speed slide switch. '1'
indicates the tool runs at slow speed, and '2' at high
speed.
• To turn off, slide the switch to '0'.
IMPORTANT:
• While in mulching mode (optional accessory) the blower
MUST be in high speed position.
HOLDING THE TOOL
Before operating the unit, stand in the operating position.
Check for the following:
• Wear proper clothing, such as boots, safety glasses or
goggles, ear/hearing protection, gloves, long pants and
a long sleeve shirt.
WARNING:
• To avoid serious personal injury, wear goggles or safety
glasses that comply with EN 166 or ANSI Z87.1 at all
times when operating this unit. Wear a face mask or
dust mask in dusty locations.
WARNING:
• To prevent serious personal injury or damage to the
unit, make sure the blower tube or the mulcher tubes
and the bag are in place before operating the unit.
