6. Operating the measuring instrument, fitting
the rechargeable battery packs, positio-
ning, changing fuses
6.1 Operation
The measuring instrument can be operated either by means of the optio-
nally-available rechargeable battery packs (2.4 V NiCd, qty 3) or directly
from the 230 V AC power via the in-plug supply/charger. The in-plug sup-
ply/charger is not included in the items supplied, but is optionally availa-
ble.
6.2 Installing the NiCd rechargeable battery packs
To insert or replace the rechargeable batteries (when defective) proceed
as follows:
• disconnect the measuring instrument from the circuit being measured,
• remove the test leads from the measuring instrument,
• switch it off and
• with a suitable crosshead screwdriver, unscrew the fixing screws in the
lower part of the case at the centre top, bottom left and bottom right.
• now lift the lower part of the case off carefully.
• wearing disposable gloves, remove the old rechargeable batteries
from the battery compartment (not necessary when first putting the
unit into operation).
• place new rechargeable correctly-polarised NiCd rechargeable batte-
ries into the battery compartment batteries (each pair in a row, shrink-
wrapped).
• after successfully inserting or replacing the batteries, close the battery
compartment again carefully.
Attention!!!
Never operate the measuring instrument in an opened condition. Dan-
ger to life!
Do not leave any used / deeply-discharged rechargeable batteries in the
measuring instrument, because even leak-proof rechargeable batteries
34
can corrode and allow chemicals to be released, which can endanger
health or destroy the battery compartment.
Used batteries are to be treated as waste requiring special handling and
must therefore be disposed of without harming the environment. Speci-
al collection bins are provided for this purpose at specialist retailers and
in waste-recovery yards.
Before charging rechargeable batteries without fail take note of the
manufacturer's charging instructions. Always use only the recommen-
ded rechargeable batteries.
So that the measuring instrument functions perfectly, it must first be
charged using the in-plug AC supply/charger. Should the LCD display con-
trast deteriorate (become unclear), the batteries must be recharged. Pro-
ceed as follows:
Connect the in-plug AC adapter to a 230 VAC socket. Then connect the
low voltage plug attached to the connecting lead to the measuring
instrument charging socket. The rechargeable batteries within the mea-
suring instrument will now be charged, whether the measuring instru-
ment is switched on or off. Measurements can begin immediately while
still connected to the AC power socket. For portable use, a wait of about
16 hours is necessary until the built-in batteries are fully charged. Routi-
ne recharging requires 10 hours.
Attention!
Never operate the measuring instrument in an opened condition. Dan-
ger to life!
6.3 Positioning the measuring instrument (angled)
The measuring instrument has a fold-away stand on the rear of the case.
Using this, the measuring instrument can be placed into an inclined posi-
tion, facilitating readings.
6.4 Changing fuses
Observe the safety instructions without fail when changing fuses!
Make sure that only fuses of the given types and nominal current ratings
are used as replacements. The use of repaired fuses or the bridging of
