f) Checking the Range of the Transmitter
In order not to lose control over your model you should, before every first start or after a crash, check the function and
range of the RC system. For the range test, it is sufficient to check the steering servo function.
Due to the good traction of the wheels and the weight of the vehicle, the wheels would not follow your steering com-
mands spontaneously and directly while still on the floor. Therefore, support the model at the front axle in a way that
allows the wheels to hang freely.
Only perform the range test without the engine running!
Proceed as follows:
• Check the receiver aerial. It must protrude from the vehicle vertically.
• First switch on the transmitter (if you have not done so yet), then the receiver power supply.
• Move approx. 50 m away from the model. Best range results if the transmitter aerial is vertical as well. Never point
the transmitter aerial directly at the vehicle. This decreases the range.
• Move the steering wheel for the steering function at the transmitter to the right. Now the wheels must turn towards
the right.
• Move the steering wheel to the left. Now the wheels must turn towards the left.
• Release the lever of the remote control lever. The wheels must return to the middle position.
Never drive the model with a defective remote control system! Before driving the vehicle, find the error if the
reactions during the range test are not as described.
g) Break-in instructions for the engine
When taking the new vehicle into operation, the combustion engine must be subjected to a break-in phase first before
you can start regular operation.
This procedure decisively influences later performance of the combustion engine and its service life. The-
refore, comply with our information on the break-in provision. Improper treatment of the combustion engine
may cause motor damage; loss of warranty/guarantee!
The following must be observed during initial breaking-in:
• Drive at a low engine speed, never at full throttle.
• Operate the motor with a rich fuel-air mix. This is shown by strong white smoke development from the muffler.
• Operate the vehicle in short running times with intermittent cool-down phases (approx. 3 min. each).
• The entire run-in time (real engine runtime) totalls at approx. 60 minutes. Only now must the engine be operated at
full output.
The addition of nitromethane to the model fuel increases the ignitability of the fuel and thereby the performance of the
engine. In the running in stage, use a model fuel with a little addition of nitromethane (approx. 16%) in order to avoid
overheating the engine. The fuel should also have a higher percentage of oil so that the lubrication of the engine is
improved until piston and cylinder liners are run in.
In order to be able to use the full power spectrum later on, the engine should have two to four tank fillings at a „rich"
carburettor setting and be run with changing throttle.
