If a hard drive fails, the corresponding disk access LED on the front of the DriveStation will glow red.
Obtain another hard drive with the same capacity to replace the failed hard drive.
■ Using in RAID 1 Mode
Under "Status" for the failed drive number, the text "Error occurred" is displayed. Turn off the DriveStation
and replace the failed hard drive.
■ Using in RAID 0, Spanning, or Normal Mode
If a drive fails when using in RAID 0 Mode, Spanning Mode, or Normal Mode, the data in the RAID array
and data in the hard drive is lost. No data can be recovered from the array, even if the failed hard drive is
replaced.
Under "Status" for the failed drive number, the text "Error occurred" is displayed. Turn off the DriveStation
and replace the failed hard drive.
Notes When Replacing Hard Drive
• Do not lift up this product by holding only the front cover section. The front cover could come off,
causing the product to drop.
• This product is a precision electronic device. When performing the work, be careful not to drop it or
subject it to sudden impact or jolts.
• This product weighs about 3 kg. When replacing the drive, be careful that it does not drop and cause
an injury.
• Be careful! There are sharp edges inside the product.
• When replacing the hard drive, only disassemble the sections specifically instructed in the manual.
Any damage due to improper disassembly will void the warranty.
• To prevent damage due to static electricity, touch a nearby metal object (such as a door knob or
window frame) to discharge any built-up electrostatic charge from your body.
• Never remove hard drives that are running properly.
• Do not change the order of the hard drives. Changing the hard drive positions can result in the
corruption or loss of data. For example, do not pull out the hard drive on the left, and insert the hard
drive on the right in its place.
• Hard Drives for Replacement
When replacing a hard drive in this product, please purchase a new Buffalo internal hard drive with
the same capacity as the failed drive.
Do not replace a failed drive with a drive that has previously been used in another product or a
computer. Rebuilding it may not work as expected.
