Important information
Notes and special cases in the handling of your unit are indicated by an
exclamation mark.
Due to technical reasons, the display speed of the liquid crystal
displays slow down at temperatures below 0 °C (approx. 2 s at -10 °C,
approx. 6 s at -20 °C). Measuring accuracy is not affected.

Use of the unit for its intended purpose
The battery-operated testo 506 is used to measure the positive or negati-
ve pressure and differential pressure in gases (See Ordering data for mea-
suring ranges). testo 506 (0 to 500 Pa) is also used, together with a Pitot
tube, to measure air flow.
Its robustness and easy handling make it suitable for customer service and
maintenance work on heating, ventilation and air conditioning units.
All pressures in the positive range can also be measured in the negative
range (Example: In the measuring range 0 to 200 hPa/mbar, the instru-
ment can also measure negative pressure 0 to -200 hPa/mbar). Ensure
connection is correct (positive pressure +, negative pressure -)!
testo 506 zeroises automatically when switched on.
testo 506 switches off automatically after 16 min (Auto Off function).

Changing the battery
It is necessary to change the battery if the symbol
appears in the
display.
-Open housing using a screwdriver.
-Remove spent batteries from battery compartment.
-Place new battery (2 off) in the battery compart-
ment. Insert correctly (+/-)!

Measuring
If there is a change in temperature, the instrument
needs 30 minutes to adapt to the new ambient tem-
perature.
- Connect hoses to testo 506.

- Switch on testo 506 using On button.
- Segment test is carried out.
Note
Not all segments are available in all of the instrument
versions.
- Automatic initialisation is carried out.

Operation
Switching measuring ranges in testo 506
testo 506 (0 to 10/200 hPa/mbar) has an automatic
measuring range switchover function.
The instrument starts in the top measuring range and
switches automatically to the lower measuring range
after 2 s.
If a pressure of 10 hPa/mbar is exceeded, the instru-
ment changes automatically to the higher range
(resolution: 0.01 hPa/mbar
Measuring air flow using testo 506
(0 to 500 Pa) and a Pitot tube
- Keep On button pressed when switching on the
instrument.
- The unit last set flashes in the display.
- Let go of On button.
- Keep pressing On until the m/s (ft/min) unit appears.
Operation
- The value 1.199 for rho in kg/m
shown in the display.

- Keep pressing On until required digit is reached.
- Wait 2 s; value is set;
