GENERAL INFORMATION
The SPLIT-AMP F82 is a fully balanced signal di-
stribution amplifier. It offers two inputs and eight
outputs, switchable either to 1-into-8 or dual-1-in-
to-4 configuration. Therefore, SPLIT-AMP F82
suits the two most frequent applications.
The standard version offers electronically balanced
in- and outputs. Optionally, either all terminals or
part of them can be equipped with balancing trans-
formers. The transformer balancing stage fully
complies IRT specifications.
THE CASE
The grounded case is built from 3 mm aluminium
and 1.25 mm steel sheet, thus providing high me-
chanical stability and ruggedness even under
tough handling circumstances. Internal signal
ground and case ground are not electrically con-
nected.
POWER SUPPLY
Mains power is injected via a built-in IEC-CEE
socket. Mains voltage can be set internally to ei-
ther 230 or 115 V AC.
The "Power"- switch is located on the front panel.
The internal power supply is equipped with a gene-
rously dimensioned toroidal transformer. To ensure
a maximum of headroom, internal DC voltages are
stabilized to +/-18 V.
Active status is indicated by an LED next to the po-
wer switch.
INPUTS
The two balanced inputs are situated on the rear
panel, equipped with XLR type connectors. They
are denoted as "IN A" and "IN B".
In dual-1-into-4 mode, both inputs are active. Their
signals are fed to outputs "OUT A1.... A4" and
"OUT B1.... B4" resp.
In 1-into-8 mode, "IN B" is muted, while the signal
fed to "IN A" appears at all outputs.
While the standard version has electronically ba-
lanced inputs, a transformer balanced version is
available.
Having passed through the differential amplifiers,
the signal is fed to a gain amplifier stage, adjus-
table from -12 to +12 dB by multiturn trimpots on
the front panel.
OPERATION MODES
Like mentioned above, there are two operational
modes concerning signal path architecture. Swit-
ching between the modes is provided by the "LINK
B to A" switch on the rear. When depressed, the
corresponding "LINK"-LED lights up and operation
mode "1-into-8" is activated. With "LINK"-LED
dark, operation mode is dual-1-into-4.
BALANCING
After the gain amplifier stage, the signal passes
through the balancing amplifiers, one for each out-
put channel. Depending on the version selected,
balancing is achieved either electronically or by
means of balancing transformers.
The electronic balancing stages behave much like
transformers. Either of pins 2 or 3 may be groun-
ded without any change in overall signal level.
In order to achieve satisfactory dynamic behavior
of the transfomer balanced version, custom made
transformers are driven by specially designed,
dual-amplifier driving circuits. The very high quality
transformers are mumetal shielded.
OUTPUTS
The SPLIT-AMP F82's outputs are equipped with
XLR type terminals. They are located on the rear
panel and are clearly marked.
In order to avoid hum problems, the connection
between XLR pin 1 and internal signal ground can
be interrupted by pulling groundlift jumpers inside
the unit.
