START-UP

- once the machine has been installed, the wheel and all safety guards properly assembled, and after making sure that the direction of
rotation of the wheel is the one indicated on the wheel guard, the machine can be started
- the machine is provided with a safety switch with release coil, so that, in case of a sudden power failure, the switch is automatically
deactivated, leaving the machine at a standstill. In the presence of a sudden return of the power supply, the machine will not re-start.
To re-start the grinder, turn on the switch again
- the machine must be connected to an socket (230V
- the outlet must be properly earthed and provided with 10A protective fuses
- the lamp that lights the grinding area turns on upon start-up. If it is not so, replace the lamp before grinding (contact an authorized
service center).

ADJUSTING THE VISE

N.B. Before starting grinding operations, it is imperative to position the chain at the center of the two jaws fastened onto the
vise (the motor must be turned off).
Proceed as follows:
- identify the type and thickness of the chain to be ground, through a survey or by consulting the chains table enclosed at the end of the
handbook (see columns C-D-E-F-G for their make and type and column B for thickness (gauge)).
- use a piece of a new chain with at least two opposed teeth having the same thickness (gauge) as the chain to be ground – position it
on the vise, the depth gauge must be on the right (photo 9)
- once the chain thickness (gauge) has been identified, activate the screw (3 - photo 10) opposed to the clamping lever (7). The regula-
tion of the screw makes it possible to place the chain at the center of the point of rotation of the vice – that is crucial to obtain the same
length for right-hand and left-hand teeth
- loosen the vise with the knob below (6 - photo 10) and turn the vise clockwise, considering the degree corresponding to the upper
grinding angle of the right-hand tooth, using the graduated scale (4 - photo 10) (different angles based on the type of chain, consult
the chains table at the end of the handbook, column H)
- have one of the right-hand teeth strike against the chain stop (13 - photo 10)
- unscrew the arm tightening knob (2) at the back of the base (photo 11)
- turn the wheel arm by the degree corresponding to the upper cutting angle of the right-hand tooth using the graduated scale positioned
on the base (photo 11) (different angles based on the type of chain, consult the chains table at the end of the handbook, column I)
- lock the arm with the knob (2 - photo 11)
- lower the arm and check the distance between the tooth and the wheel
- activate the chain progress/stop adjusting screw (9 - photo 12) and make several attempts to have the tooth brush the grinding wheel.
The screw must be activated with the chain free to slide inside the two jaws (11)
- turn the vice in the opposite direction by the same degree, make the left-hand tooth touch the chain stop (13 - photo 13), lower the
arm and make sure that the tooth is brushing the wheel like the right-end tooth
- in the presence of a remarkable difference, the chain is not perfectly axial and it is necessary to adjust the screw (3) opposed to the
clamping lever (7) carrying out small movements until the correct position for the chain is identified
- after identifying the chain's center line, you can start grinding

GRINDING

- during grinding operations wear suitable goggles and work gloves
- it is recommended to clean the chain before grinding it
- place the chain to be ground on the two jaws (11), with the depth gauge on the right, as indicated (photo 9)
- loosen the vise with the knob below it (6 - photo 10) and turn it clockwise, considering the degree corresponding to the upper grinding
angle of the right-hand tooth, using the graduated scale (4 - photo 10)
- have one of the right-hand teeth strike against the chain stop (13) and, with the adjustment screw (9 - photo 12) adjust the tooth
feed
- turn off the motor, lower the arm and, after various attempts, with the chain feeding adjustment screw, approach the tooth to the wheel
and touch it, always starting from the worst tooth identified using the template (fig. 3 point D)
- start-up the grinder and, with the chain feeding adjustment screw (9), calculate the quantity of material to be removed
- then, lock the adjustment screw with the ring (photo 12 – point 1)
- to avoid overloading the motor and to prevent the chain teeth from being damaged, remove minimum quantities of material
and do not work too long on the same tooth, to prevent the cutter from being burnt out
- adjust the grinding depth with the adjustment screw (10) on the arm; be careful to avoid nicking the links (photo 14)
- once the grinding depth has been determined, lock the adjustment screw with the ring (photo 14 – point 1)
- grind all teeth of the same type (right-hand) before turning the vise from the opposite side to start grinding left-hand teeth (photo 13);
do not touch the chain feeding adjustment screw (9 - photo 12)
- turn the vice with the motor off, while the grinding wheel is not moving
- for some types of chain it is necessary to have the vice (5) swing by 10° in either direction, following the instructions on the notches
on the right-hand side of the vice support (photo 15)
- the vice, if necessary, must swing towards the operator for right-hand teeth (photo 16) and on the opposite side for left-hand teeth
(photo 17) (see the chain table at the end of this handbook, column L).
- for very worn chains, adjust the lateral position of the chain stop (13) with the knob (14), (photo 10), to prevent the wheel from nicking
the stop
N.B.
- do not use coolants during grinding.
- after grinding, turn off the grinder, turning the switch to "O" before removing the chain
- if, when you turn the switch to "1", the grinder does not start, and if when the switch is in the "0" position the grinder does
not stop, promptly disconnect the power cable from the mains
- if, during grinding, the wheel is accidentally hit, follow the instructions provided in paragraph FITTING THE GRINDING
