5. Installation and commissioning

5.1. General

The following points must be noted to prevent damages
in the pump during installation and commissioning:
The installation work must be carried out by qualified
personnel in compliance with the safety regulations.
The pump must be checked for possible damages
prior to installation.

The minimum submersion in water must be

considered for level control.
Air pockets in the pump casing and in pipes must be
avoided (by means of appropriate venting facilities or
slight tilting of the pump).
Protect the pump from frost.
The mechanical room must be designed for the
respective machinery. This includes also that a lifting
device for assembly/disassembly can be installed,
with which the installation site of the pump can be
reached without danger.
The power lines of the pump must run in a way that
hazard-free operation and easy assembly/disassem-
bly is possible.
The power line must be fixed professionally in the
mechanical room so that loose hanging of the leads
is prevented. Depending on the length and weight of
the leads a cable holder must be fitted every two to
three metres.

5.2. Fitting

Danger of falls!
When mounting the pump and its accessories work
is carried out directly at the edge of the basin! Care-
lessness or wrong footwear can lead to falls. There
is danger to life!
Take all safety measures to prevent this.
Fix the pressure pipe or the hose on the pressure branch
of the pump and lay the pressure pipe. When using a
hose connection or pipe connection with thread the hose
connector at the branch of the pump can be cut off. The
pressure pipe should have a minimum diameter of 3/4"
to ensure optimal conveyor performance. Additionally, a
swing non-return flap can be mounted in the pressure
pipe to prevent backward running of the water when the
pump is switched off. The pressure pipe must be mount-
ed without tension.
When using the hose it must be ensured that this is laid
our without bends. When using accessories, such as a
quick coupling, or similar, it has to be ensured that these
are sealed with teflon tape, since leakage reduces the
conveyor performance of the pump.

Since the pump can work at very low extraction
heights, the pump must be set up on a firm, non-flex-
ible floor. If the pump is standing on a flexible floor
(e.g. in a plastic tank) the pump can attach itself by
suction to the floor and cannot transfer the fluid. Fix
the pump on the handhold with a rope and chain and
lower down into the medium. The pump must be
securely set up on the floor; open the valves if neces-
sary. The sensor switch must be placed on the floor
with the electrodes on the underside. It is important
to ensure that the lower edge of the sensor switch
housing is in direct contact with the floor to ensure
proper function. The run time of the pump is 4
minutes.
It is essential to make sure that the pump is installed
at a safe distance from electrical connections, as the
stream of water from the vent may otherwise cause
an electric shock/short-circuit! Danger to life!
Extraction height
The pumps are equipped with adjustable support feet.
1 mm residual water extraction height without sup-
port feet (as supplied)
2 mm residual water extraction height with support
feet. In this case, push the 3 support feet into their re-
cesses on the underside of the pump until they click
fast. The feet point inwards.
3 mm residual water extraction height. In this case,
push the 3 support feet into their recesses on the
underside of the pump until they click fast. The feet
point outwards.
The extraction heights below 3mm are exceptional
extraction heights and, due to the reduced cross-sec-
tion, they limit the inflow on the suction side. This ef-
fect reduces the output of the pump. The pump only
achieves its full output with an extraction height of
3mm.
Installation of a non-return flap
The pumps are used as emergency pumps in most
applications and are therefore only very rarely brought
into operation. Therefore, the pump is not equipped with
a non-return flap by default. The reason for this is the
possible functional impairment of the pump under certain
conditions. If a very long time (months or years) has passed
since its last operation, dirt may have accumulated on the
non-return flap water column (of which the most recently
extracted surface water may have contained significant
amounts) and from there may have been deposited on
the non-return flap where it prevents the valve from open-
ing. This is especially applicable since the pump must be
completely ventilated after a longer standstill time during
each initial startup.
The disadvantage of installation without a non-return flap
is that the water running back out of the line and the re-
maining residual water must be removed (wiped up or
removed with a wet vacuum). Thus, in most cases, the
possible failure of the pump in an emergency is preferred.
A non-return flap should therefore only be installed in
pumps with applications involving frequent operation (at
least 1 x per week).
