6. Inserting/replacing the batteries

Observe correct polarity while inserting the batteries. Remove the batteries
if the device is not used for a long period of time to avoid damage through
E
leaking. Leaking or damaged batteries might cause acid burns when
J
contact with skin, therefore use suitable protective gloves to handle
B
corrupted batteries.
A
Keep batteries out of reach of children. Do not leave the battery lying
G
around, as there is risk, which children or pets could swallow it.
E
Replace all the batteries at the same time. Mixing old and new batteries in
the device can lead to battery leakage and device damage.
J
Make sure that batteries are not dismantled, short-circuited or thrown
G
into fire. Never recharge non-rechargeable batteries. There is a risk of
F
explosion!
A
1.
To open the battery case, loosen the screws on the back of the device.
A
2.
Insert two new 1.5 V batteries (AAA) with correct polarity. ("+" = positive, "-" = negative)
B
3.
Close the battery case cover.
E
4.
Replace the batteries with new ones when the battery condition symbol is shown in the
display.

A) Measuring wood moisture

A
1.
Switch the device on using the
J
2.
Select the calibration scale according to the kind of wood to be measured (see appendix I).
A
Press the
button until the appropriate letter is shown in the display.
A
3.
Remove the protective cap from the device.
4.
Push the plug gauges of the measuring device into the surface of the measurement piece.
C
5.
Read off the moisture content in the display directly in %H2O of the dry weight.
B
6.
Alternatively (especially with hardwoodsf), the separate moisture probe (S) can also be used
J
for measuring. Connect it to the measuring device via the "Feuchte/Moisture" socket.
B
7.
Proceed with measuring as described from Point 3 on.
C
8.
Switch the device off by holding the
releasing it.
C
A
B) Temperature correction / calibration
C
The temperature of a piece of wood to be measured determines its resistance.
E
A
The device is calibrated for moisture measurement at 20°C. Moisture measurements of
A
warmer wood yield higher values; with colder wood, they turn out lower. There is an indirect
A
proportionality of the relationship of temperature to moisture content. A correction factor of 0.5
% per 5°C (arithmetically) must be observed in the process.
C
Example:
C
Read-off value: 10.5 %
G
