7 Transport, storage
WARNING: Observe the attached safety instruction sheet
for industrial fans. Do not attach transport equipment
(cables, chains etc.) to sensitive components (impeller, ter-
minal box).
Store fan horizontally only (at -10 °C to +60 °C). Avoid
storage periods that are too long. Recommendation: store
for a max. of 1 year. Before installation, check that the
moving parts (impeller) can move freely.
8 Installation instructions
• Observe the air flow and rotational direction according
to the arrows on sticker [S] → Unit overview [} 4].
• Use ducts (folded spiral-seams ducts) that match the
nominal size of the unit variant.
• Observe the roof's permissible load-bearing capacity
(min. of 200 kg/m², for heavy units a min. of 300 kg/m²).
• Lay connecting cables (ventilation duct, power cable,
control cable) at the installation site.
• The customer must provide suitable mounting material
(strength class 8.8) which is sufficiently dimensioned to
support the basic unit.

• To avoid sound bridges to the building structure, ob-
serve the planning instructions regarding the unit posi-
tion and distances to other façade components. If neces-
sary, use isolating elements.
9 Installation, electrical connection
9.1 Installation
NOTICE Risks of leakages if unit is not sealed tightly
enough.
Firmly screw fan down to the duct system at all flange
holes. Fit suitable insulation, sound-absorbing and installa-
tion materials.
1. Cut the folded spiral-seams duct at the installation site
if the duct system is already installed.
2. Secure appropriate FU mounting foot to fan housing
with suitable screws provided. Any installation position
can be selected. Make sure that there is free access to
terminal box at the installation site.
3. Transport the fan to installation site and set it down
there. Observe chapter Transport.
4. Mount pre-assembled fan unit (incl. mounting foot) on
the wall, ceiling or bracket. Mounting material of the
sufficient size should be provided by the customer.
5. Lay suitable folded spiral-seams ducts flush against the
fan on the inlet and outlet sides. Observe spacing for
flexible cuffs or EL or ELA flexible couplings.
6. Securely screw folded spiral-seams ducts to the fan
flange holes with flexible cuffs or with EL or ELA coup-
lings. Screw all flange holes. Ensure seal integrity.
7. With a free inlet, also fit an SG protective grille as pro-
tection against accidental contact and drawing in.
8. Fit suitable insulation and sound-deadening material.
9.2 Electrical connection
NOTICE Risk of damage to unit in the event of short cir-
cuits.
Insulate any unnecessary cable cores.
Make sure to connect the fan to an external
control device with automatic latching switch-off.
The control device must not switch on again auto-
matically after being tripped.
Pole-changeable motors with speed ratios of
8/4 or 4/2 are switched according to the Dahlander
principle.
For DZR fans, air flow direction is reversed if
you rewire the external conductors L1 and L2.
Operation with a frequency converter is only
permitted after consultation with the factory.
Feasibility must be checked on a case-by-case
basis.

1. Remove the terminal box cover.
2. Pierce a round opening in the cable grommet in the ter-
minal box with a grommet puncher. Note cable dia-
meter.
3. Guide the power cable into the terminal box such that
the cable grommet fits around the cable sheathing
completely. If necessary, seal the cable grommet on
site.
4. Wire fan to the terminal block according to the circuit
diagram Circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams. Observe the
tightening torques.
5. Connect external control device to the two TK motor
terminals of the terminal block. Observe the tightening
torques.
External control devices
EZR: The fan must be connected to a motor protection
switch (e.g. MVE 10-1) or the control circuit of a contactor
control (connection terminals potential-free). NOTICE:
MVE 10-1 not permitted for EZR 25/4 D, EZR 30/6 B or EZR
35/6 B.
DZR (Standard): The fan must be connected to a motor
protection switch (e.g. MV 25-1) or the control circuit of a
contactor control (connection terminals potential-free).
DZR 25/4 D and pole-changeable DZR: Install thermal mo-
tor protection for these fans. The usage temperatures may
not be exceeded. On pole-changeable DZRs, use an op-
tional pole-changing switch, e.g. P1 or WP1, to switch the
speeds.
1. Fit optional on/off switch.
2. Connect optional accessory components (speed con-
troller, 5-step transformer).
Speed controller
Use a speed controller for stepless control of EZR fans. For
suitable speed controller → www.maico-ventil-
atoren.com.
The technology used in the phase angle controller may
cause humming noises.
NOTICE The fan will stop and suffer functional problems
if the output voltage on the speed controller is too low.
Observe information in the speed controller operating in-
structions. Always set the minimum speed on the speed
controller such that the fan motor starts up again after
power failure.
5-step transformer
Use a 5-step transformer to adjust the speed of the EZR/
DZR fans in steps. For matching TR 5-step transformer →
www.maico-ventilatoren.com.
1. Fit terminal box cover. Ensure that there are no dirt
particles in the terminal box and that the seal of the
terminal box cover has close contact all the way around
the terminal box. Observe the tightening torques.
2. Check seal integrity of terminal box.
3. With protection class I, check the connection of the PE
conductor.
10 Commissioning
1. Check that all screw connections are tight.
2. Ensure that the air can flow unhindered and that there
are no foreign bodies in the air duct.
3. Check that connection data matches the technical data
on the fan (→ rating plate).
4. Run function test. Check and ensure the direction of ro-
tation/air flow direction and smooth running of the im-
peller.
11 Operation
The fan is switched on or off with a switch that is to be
provided by the customer. Ensure sufficient supply air dur-
ing operation.
