Introduction
Dear Customer,
With the digital storage oscilloscope SDS 200 for your computer's USB interface you
have bought a state-of-the-art measuring instrument. It has a bandwidth of up to 200
MHz. The trigger can be set separately using the "Advanced Trigger" function and the
input signals can be combined via the four basic arithmetical operations using the
"Math" function. Of course Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) is also possible. The
controls and instruments for the hardware have been kept to a minimum. Operation
itself takes place on the screen of your PC or notebook. Windows 98 is a minimum
requirement.
The "Hardware" has been designed in accordance with VDE 0411 (=EN 61010). The
DSO (digital storage oscilloscope) is also EMC tested (EN 61326 with EN 55011, Class
B), and therefore meets the requirements of the applicable European and national
directives. Proof of conformity has been submitted and the corresponding documents
(declaration) are obtainable from the manufacturer. To maintain this status and ensure
safe operation, you as the user must always comply with these operating instructions!

Correct use

- Measurement and display of various measurement signals with a max. amplitude of
42 Vp (peak voltage) up to a frequency of 200 MHz on channel 1 ("CH1") and / or
channel 2 ("CH2")
- The measuring-circuit voltages must be electrically isolated from the mains supply
(risk of shock).
- Measurements must not be carried out under unfavourable ambient conditions. The
following are unfavourable ambient conditions.
16
- Damp or too high humidity
- Dust or combustible gases, vapours or solvents
- Storms or stormy conditions such as strong electrostatic fields etc. Use other than
that described above will lead to damage to the product and additional risks, such
as short circuit, fire, electric shock etc. No part of the product may be changed or
modified. The safety instructions must always be complied with!
Controls
(see fold-out page)
1 BNC connector for CH 1 input
2 BNC connector for CH 2 input
3 Calibration output, 5 V / 1 kHz, for probe calibration
4 Status LED (green)
5 Port for the USB interface cable (power supply and signal path)

Safety instructions

Damage due to non-compliance with these operating instructions renders the warran-
ty void! We accept no liability for secondary damage resulting from non-compliance
with these operating instructions.
We accept no liability for damage to property or injury to persons caused by mishand-
ling of the oscilloscope or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cir-
cumstances, the warranty is rendered void.
The "USB 200 MHz" digital storage oscilloscope left the factory in perfect technical
condition. To maintain this status and ensure safe operation, the user must comply
with the safety instructions and warnings contained in these instructions for use.
The digital storage oscilloscope must not be used in installations in overvoltage cate-
gory III of IEC 664. The measuring instruments and circuits are not protected against
electric arc explosions (IEC 61010-2-031, section 13.101). For safety reasons, the
measurement signals must always be electrically isolated from mains potential.
Measuring instruments and accessories should be kept out of the reach of children!
In commercial premises the relevant accident prevention regulations for electrical
equipment must be complied with.
In schools, training centres, computer and self-help workshops the use of measuring
instruments and accessories must be supervised by trained personnel in a responsible
manner.
