The lithium-ion batteries of the Power-X-Change
series are allowed to be charged only with the
Power-X charger.
5. Before starting the equipment
Warning!
Always remove the battery before making ad-
justments to the tool.
Danger!
Do not fi t the battery until the tool has been fully
assembled.
When you are working on the tool, always wear
protective gloves and use the supplied blade co-
vers to protect yourself against injury.
Each time before you use the tool:
•
Check that the safety devices and the cutting
device are in perfect condition and complete
•
Check that all screws are securely fastened
•
Check that all moving parts move smoothly
5.1 General assembly / adjustments
5.1.1 Fitting the steady grip (Fig. 3)
To fi t/remove the steady grip, use the supplied
hex key (Fig. 2 / Item. 26).
Place the steady grip (Item 16) on the steady grip
holder (Item 6). Insert the grip screw (Item 16a)
into the steady grip (Item 16). Screw the side
steady grip (Item 16b) onto the steady grip.
If necessary you can adjust the position of the
steady grip after slackening the grip screw. Tigh-
ten the grip screw again before you use the tool.
You can also hold and guide the tool by the side
steady grip.
After the steady grip has been fi tted, it is not
allowed to be removed again even for cleaning
and maintenance. The steady grip must always
be fi tted in accordance with the instructions (with
the side steady grip on the left side of the tool) in
order to comply with the required safe distance
from the rotating tools.
5.1.2 Fitting the harness (Fig. 4)
Attach the carabiner hook (Item 17a) of the har-
ness (Item 17) to the harness holder (Item 5). Use
the harness adjuster to set the optimum harness
length. If necessary you can adjust the position of
the harness holder (Item 5) on the long handle. To
do so, slacken the wing nut (Fig. 2 / Item 5a) on

the harness holder, move the harness holder and
then re-tighten the wing nut.
5.1.3 Fitting the extension tube on the motor
unit (Fig. 5-6)
Note: It is possible to fi t all modules either with or
without the extension tube (Fig. 2 / Item 12). This
depends on the required working height.
Make sure that the mounting screws (Item A) are
on the same side and insert the extension tube
(Item 12) into the tube of the motor unit (Item 11).
Screw the two tubes together with the union nut
(Item 7). The motor unit is now screwed to the
extension tube (Fig. 6). To dismantle, proceed in
reverse order.
5.1.4 Converting the connecting tube
The trimmer/scythe module (Fig. 2/Item 13)
comes with the connecting tube (Fig. 2/Item 8)
already fi tted. To be able to use a diff erent module
you must convert the connecting tube. This is ex-
plained in section 5.3.1 taking the pole-mounted
pruner module as an example.
5.2 Assembly/ adjustments of the trimmer/
scythe
Note:
•
The trimmer/scythe module (Fig. 2/Item 13)
comes with the connecting tube (Fig. 2/Item
8) already fitted.
•
The tool is supplied from the factory ready for
operation as a trimmer with the cutting line.
•
The tool is allowed to be used as a trimmer
only when it is fitted with the cutting line blade
guard hood (Fig. 2/ Item 23a) (pre-fitted at the
factory).
5.2.1 Fitting the guard hood (Fig. 7)
Use the supplied hex key (Item 26) to remove
the hex screw from the guard hood. Push the
guard hood (Item 23) onto the mount on the gear
housing as far as it will go and screw it securely
in place with the previously removed hex screw.
Remove the protective sticker (Item B) from the
cutting line blade. Warning! Take care not to cut
yourself on the cutting line blade.
5.2.2 Removing/fi tting the cutting line unit
(Fig. 8)
5.2.2.a Removing the cutting line unit
The cutting line unit must be removed for later
use as a scythe. Turn the cutting line unit (Item
C) until you can see the recess of the fl ange (Fig.
