Safety instructions for ELAC Bass 130 Active
L
Please observe any caution notes given in the
operating instructions and on the appliance itself.
L
Only connect the appliance to the correct mains
voltages as shown on the equipment.
L
In case of a fault, replace the fuse only with the
correct type as shown on the back of the appliance near
the fuse holder.
L
Route the power cord in a way to eliminate any risk
of damage (e.g. treading, placing heavy
"spikes" on it). Always pull the plug and not the cord for
mains disconnection.
L
To avoid loud disturbing noises, the connection
cables of an audio system should never be made and
broken in complete working state of the appliances. With
ELAC Bass 130 Active the automatic switch on the back
of the appliance has to be put into the position "OFF".
L
Although the appliance is in position "OFF", it is not
completely separated from the mains, recognizable by the
LED at the backside panel. To avoid unnecessary risks
and energy consumption for instance during longer
absence, the mains plug or - if used - the power switch of
a multiple socket should be accessible easily.
L
If the loudspeakers have not been magnetically
shielded, they could contaminate or distort the picture of
the television in their immediate vicinity.
Generally, a distance of more than 0,5 m is sufficient to
avoid disturbances of this nature. Many television sets
have a correction circuit installed for such cases. When
these sets are switched off and then, after a few minutes,
switched on again, the above-mentioned disturbances
have been corrected and should be no longer discernible.
L
Please do not lay down for instance credit cards,
floppies or other magnetic data carriers on the
loudspeakers housings; the stored information might be
destroyed.
As well cassette recorders and video cassette recorders
shouldn't be placed in the direct vicinity; the function of the
tape heads might be impaired, which could be cured by
subsequent de-magnetisation.
L
The loudspeakers should be located in a place free
from high relative humidity and moisture. As with all
appliances which are not specially designed for wet
applications, moisture can bridge electrical isolation and
therefore provides a source for life dangerous risk.
Permanent high relative humidity and extreme insolation
can cause the wooden cabinets to swell thus impairing
their efficiency.
L
If the volume is up high continously, not only the
neighbours are aggravated but the user could also
damage his health.
L
The temperature of the heat sink on the back can
reach more than 60 / C under longer high level conditions,
be careful when touching the appliance. To avoid
unnecessary action of the thermal fuse, sufficient air

circulation for the heat sink must be enabled.
L
If the loudspeaker enclosure becomes overloaded
due to very high volume, a blowing of individual
components cannot be completely ruled out. Theoretically,
this kind of overload could cause a fire in the interior of the
enclosure. However, we know of no such case. Because
of the possible danger you should never leave
loudspeakers
under
unattended.
L
Connecting ELAC Bass 130 Active through
loudspeaker connections ("SPEAKER LEVEL IN") to high-
performance power stages, there might be at high volume
voltages of more than 30 V at the terminals. Please avoid
therefore touching cable ends which are sometimes
uncovered or terminal contacts under this conditions.
L
The speaker terminals may only be connected to the
corresponding amplifier output connectors or the input of
satellite speakers. Any other kind of connection directly to
the mains (230 / 115 V) is not permitted; this would lead to
the almost immediate destruction of the loudspeaker.
For this reason it should be avoided, to fit the loudspeaker
cables with plugs, which might be mixed up with mains
plugs. Children and animals are particularly endangered
due to their lack of knowledge in this field.
L
Take care that foreign bodies or liquids cannot
enter the appliance.
L
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not open the
appliance. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.
