4.2 Possible sources of interference
We have taken every possible precaution to ensure optimum
conditions for data reception. HBG and DCF are long-wave
transmitters with high coverage ranges (in the case of the DCF
receiver, for example, approx. 1500 m). However, as in the case
of a radio broadcast attempting to be received via long wave,
there is a risk of interference. Primary sources of interference
are outlined below.

Reception problems may be experienced inside buildings
containing large amounts of concrete and metal as well
as electrical installations (e.g. shopping centres).
Potential direct sources of interference include equipment
such as televisions, computers, household appliances,
etc., or transformers, overhead lines, radio transmitters
and railway lines.
Atmospheric factors can impair the propagation of radio
waves.
Reception is affected by distance from the transmitter and
geographical phenomena (mountains, etc.). Due to their
location a significant distance away from the transmitter,
areas such as southern Italy and northern Scandinavia
are most at risk from impaired reception quality.
All regions are at risk from the appearance of "dead
spots", which will prevent reception.
Rural areas are less susceptible to interference than built-
up areas in towns and cities.
Due to the reduction in the number of active sources of
interference, reception quality is correspondingly better
at night.
If the batteries in your station are at low charge, this will
impair reception quality.
