Resolution
This is the way of quantifying the number of individual points of an
image ("pixels") that are displayed on the screen. Standard resoluti-
ons supported by a PC VGA graphics card are 640x480, 800x600
and 1024x768; better, more expensive graphics cards can also sup-
port 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 pixels.
The first number indicates the quantity of points shown in a horizon-
tal line, i.e. from left to right.
The second number indicates the quantity of points shown in a ver-
tical line, i.e. from top to bottom.
Image frequency Also known as "image refresh rate"; it is the way of quantifying the
frequency per second with which the VGA card generates the VGA
image. An image frequency of 75Hz therefore means the image sho-
wn is generated 75 times every second. See also "Line frequency".
Modern graphics cards can support image frequencies of speeds
that only very expensive monitors can accommodate.
OSD
On-screen display; this display shows the screen adjustment opti-
ons that are available, e.g. picture width, picture height etc., thus
facilitating any adjustment work the user needs to perform.
Line frequency
This is the way of quantifying the number of lines the monitor's elec-
tron beam displays per second. In the case of a resolution of
640x480 pixels, this value is therefore 480 lines. However, the calcu-
lation does not end there. The 480 lines only apply for ONE image,
but, as we know, the image is generated more than once per second
- 75 times for instance (see "Image frequency"). The total number of
lines is therefore worked out by multiplying 480 and 75, the result
being a total of 36000 lines. However, as the electron beam also
takes some time to "move back", one also has to take a correction
factor into consideration. The correction factor amounts to approx.
1.05.
With a resolution of 640x480 and an image frequency of 75Hz, the
line frequency is thus
480x75x1.05 = 37800Hz or 37.8kHz.
This means that the specifications of the monitor must be able to
support an image frequency of 75Hz as well as a line frequency of
37.8kHz.
In the event that either of these values exceeds those set in your
operating system (the line frequency is dependent on the resoluti-
on rating), you run the risk of damaging the monitor!

Utilisation en conformité
Le moniteur sert à la représentation d'un signal compatible VGA délivré par une car-
te graphique VGA montée dans un ordinateur de type PC.
Le moniteur est en mesure d'afficher différents formats d'images (p. ex. 640 x 480
pixels, 800 x 600 ou 1024 x 768 pixels) avec différentes fréquences de rafraîchisse-
ment (p. ex. 60, 70 ou 75 Hz), sous réserve de ne pas dépasser les limites techniques
et les spécifications de ce moniteur.
Son utilisation est uniquement autorisée dans des locaux fermés. Autrement dit, il ne
doit pas être utilisé en extérieur, à l'air libre. Il convient d'éviter impérativement tout
contact avec de l'humidité, comme p. ex. dans une salle de bains, etc.
