Description of the model
Electric indoor helicopter
The Apache RC helicopter is modelled after the Apache AH-64 Longbow helicopter. The model, similar to its great archetype,
likewise permits control around two major axes so that vertical climbing and descent, turning À ight as well as the À ight direc-
tions forwards and backwards are possible.
Acrobatic ability and top speed were dispensed with in the development of this model, since these features are only of sub-
ordinate signi¿ cance for an indoor helicopter. Instead the model was conceived to be distinguished by its simple handling,
stable hover À ight and precise response to the control. These properties are indispensable for a model helicopter developed
for indoor À ights.
Instead of the individual principal rotors with four rotor blades of the Apache AH-64 Longbow, the model consequently has
two coaxially ordered rotors with an opposed direction of rotation. In this principle the torques of the two principal ro-
tors of the fuselage are mutually cancelled, the model therefore does not turn around the vertical axis and therefore man-
ages to stabilise the À ight direction without a tail rotor. The tail rotor on the model has no function.
The upper rotor with a ¿ xed angle of incidence of the rotor blades serves as the bearing rotor and ensures the lifting effect.
A paddle bar with centrifugal weights stabilises the rotation. The centrifugal weights are found on the two ends of the paddle
bar, in the plane of rotation of the principal rotor and vertical to the longitudinal axis of the rotor blades.
The large distance of the bearing rotor to the model aircraft's centre of gravity ensures a relatively intrinsically stable À ight
position.
The lower rotor is the steering rotor, with the change of direction carried out by a change of the speed compared to the
bearing rotor (tail) and the angle of incidence of the rotor blades (roll). The steering rotor is also stabilised with a paddle bar
with centrifugal weights.
