Socket pieces should be dimensioned so that the lower end of the
transducer protrudes at least 10 mm (0.394 in) out of the socket.

If the reflective properties of the medium are good, you can mount
LEVEL TRANSMITTER 8177 on sockets higher than the transducer
length. You will find recommended values for socket heights in the
following illustration. The socket end should be smooth and burr-free, if
possible also rounded. Carry out a false echo storage.
