7. Battery installation

Observe correct polarity while inserting the battery. Remove the battery if the device is not used for a long
period of time to avoid damage through leaking.
Leaking or damaged battery might cause acid burns when contact with skin, therefore use suitable
protective gloves to handle corrupted battery.
Keep battery out of reach of children. Do not leave the battery lying around, as there is risk, which children
or domestic pets could swallow it.
Make sure that battery is not dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into fire. Never recharge non-
rechargeable battery. There is a risk of explosion!

Installation of batteries in outdoor sensor unit

1.
The battery compartment (F) of the outdoor sensor is located behind the back cover.
2.
Open the battery compartment of the remote sensor unit by using a coin and turning the screw on the back cover in a
counter clockwise direction.
3.
Take off the battery compartment lid and insert 2 AAA-batteries with correct polarity. Close battery compartment again
with the screw.
When using more than one external transmitter (a maximum of 3 is possible, optional additional sensors can be
purchased separately), select a Channel - CH1, CH2 or CH3 - and ensure that each sensor is transmitting at a
different channel, before inserting the batteries. The channel selector switch (D4) is at the back of the outdoor
sensor unit.
Press the "TX" button (D7) on the outdoor sensor unit to manually transmit the temperature reading to the main
unit. The main unit emits an audio signal ("beep") when the temperature reading is received.

Installation of batteries in main unit

1.
Open the battery compartment on the back and insert 3 AA-batteries with correct polarity.
2.
Close the battery compartment again so it is fully locked in place.
The main unit and outdoor sensor unit can also be operated with rechargeable batteries. However, due to the low
voltage (rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, non-rechargeable battery = 1.5 V) the range and operating time are shorter.
Furthermore, due to the lower voltage, problems can also occur when receiving DCF time signals.
If problems occur when using rechargeable batteries (e.g. low range, short operating period, poor DCF reception,
etc.), remove the rechargeable batteries and use non-rechargeable ones. We recommend you to use high quality
"alkaline" batteries, because their operating life is longer than that of common zinc carbon batteries.
