Operating Instructions for TinCheck

With the TinCheck, you have purchased an innovative measurement device for the fast and uncomplicated detection
of thetin side of float glass. Bohle has succeeded in eliminating the considerable disadvantages of conventional
measurement devices, such as sensitivity to light or short service life of the lamp, by the use of state-of-the-art

03 Operation
Switching the TinCheck on:
Press briefly, the display shows TinCheck: Calibration
Calibration:
Important: The device must be held in midair when calibrating (not directed
toward a light source). It must be held at least 30 cm from any objects that
might be nearby. The sensor window (back side of the device) should not be
covered.
The display shows: Ready (the device is ready to start a measurement).
Starting a measurement:
Press briefly.
Switching the TinCheck off:
Hold for approx. 2 seconds, the display shuts off.
Note: After 60 seconds the device shuts itself off automatically.

Bohle mode
Basic setting of the device.
(This mode is indicated in the display by

This mode calculates a result on the basis of stored reference
measurements of sample glasses from different glass manufacturers.
The result of the measurement is shown with tin for the tin side and air
for the atmospheric side of float glass.

technologies. Electronic com- ponents of the very latest LED generation enable TinCheck to provide correct results
on the graphic display with the very first measurement. Simply place the handling device on the glass pane, press the
start button, and you're finished. The result is displayed immediately.
User mode (Customer mode)
(This mode is indicated in the display by
in the upper left hand
corner.)
In the customer mode, the user can define a threshold value by a
comparative measurement (measurement on both sides) of a reference
glass pane and store it in the device. This enables the correct result to be
achieved even in cases of unusual glass types.
Numbers are used to show the measurement results: A higher number
for the tin side, a lower number for the atmospheric side of float glass.

The device has been set to the desired mode; the display shows the
respective mode symbol in the upper left hand corner.
Changing the threshold value:
Please note: In the Bohle mode the threshold value cannot be changed.
Before changing the threshold value, the device must be set to the user mode
(see 06 Changing the mode setting), measurements must be done on both
sides of a reference pane and the average of the two measurements must be
noted (calculation formula: (result of measurement of side 1 + result of mea-
surement of side 2) : 2 = threshold value). This will be needed for setting the
threshold value.

08 Care and maintenance
The TinCheck should always be stored in the safety case supplied, in
order to protect it against being damaged.
To avoid damages, the TinCheck may only be operated and/or stored in a
temperature range of 10° C to+ +40° C. The TinCheck should not be
exposed to any strong vibrations or impacts. Clean the display window
and housing only with a dry, clean, soft cloth. By no means may cleaning
fluids or thinners be used for cleaning.
The sensor window must only be cleaned using a dry, clean and soft
brush Never clean the sensor opening with compressed air.
Repairs may only be done by the manufacturer.
Please contact your dealer.
09 Safety instructions
The device should not be operated by untrained persons and should be kept
out of children's reach. Never look directly into the sensor window. In the
event of possible reflection of the LED beam, suitable protective glasses
must be worn.
CAUTION
The UV LED radiates UV light during operation. Do not look directly
into the UV light during operation of device. This can be harmful to
the eye even for brief periods due to the intense UV light. If viewing the UV
light is neces- sary, please use UV filtered glasses to avoid damage by the UV
light. If the UV LED in your product might be viewed directly, please affix a
caution label to your product to that effect. Avoid direct eye exposure to UV
light. Keep out of reach of children.
10 Liability exclusion
The manufacturer and supplier assume no responsibility for incorrect
readings or for any consequences resulting from incorrect readings
The manufacturer reserves the right, on the basis of further
developments and improvements, to amend the technical data without
prior notice.
11 Warranty
The guarantee for the TinCheck applies for 12 months from the delivery
date. No liability can be accepted for damages or malfunctions which are due
to improper use, outside influences or normal wear. Wear parts are not cover-
ed by the warranty. The warranty becomes void if the device is tampered
with or if identifications on the product such as name plates, proof of import,
serial numbers, official signs, etc. are removed or altered. Warranty claims
are to be handled by your authorised dealer.
