jerky movements when you begin a cut. Exerting
slight pressure, guide the saw from the top to the
bottom through the branch.
Sawing off large and long branches (Fig. 37):
Carry out a relief cut when working on large bran-
ches.
Start by sawing through 1/3 of the branch diame-
ter (a) from the top to the bottom with the top side
of the cutter rail. Then saw towards the fi rst cut (b)
from the top to the bottom with the bottom side of
the cutter rail.
Saw off long branches in several steps to keep
control over the impact location.
Kickback
The term „kickback" describes what happens
when the running pole-mounted pruner sud-
denly kicks upward and backward. Usually this
is caused by contact between the tip of the rail
and the workpiece or by the saw chain becoming
trapped.
In the event of kickback, large forces occur sud-
denly and violently. As a result, the cordless pole-
mounted pruner usually reacts uncontrollably.
This can often result in very serious injuries to the
worker or persons in the vicinity. The risk of kick-
back is at its greatest when the saw is positioned
for a cut in the region of the tip of the cutter rail, as
the leverage eff ect is greatest there. It is therefore
safest to position the saw as fl at as possible.
Warning!
•
Make sure that the chain tension is always
correctly adjusted.
•
Only use a cordless pole-mounted pruner
that is in perfect working order.
•
Only work with a saw chain that has been
properly sharpened in accordance with the
instructions.
•
Never cut with the upper edge or the tip of the
rail.
•
Always hold the cordless pole-mounted pru-
ner firmly with both hands.
Cutting wood which is under tension
Special care is required when cutting wood which
is under tension. Cutting wood which is under
tension can release the tension, causing the
wood to react out of control. In the worst case this
can result in severe and even fatal injuries. This
type of work must be performed only by specially
trained persons.

7.3 Working with the cordless hedge trimmer
•
Check that the blades work properly. With
their twin cutting edges, the blades rotate in
opposite directions, thus guaranteeing a high
cutting performance and smooth operation.
•
Take care to maintain a steady foothold and
hold the tool firmly in both hands away from
your body. Before you switch on, make sure
that the tool is not touching any objects.
Work practice
•
A hedge trimmer can be used to cut shrubs
and bushes as well as hedges.
•
To obtain the best cutting results, hold the
hedge trimmer so that the cutter teeth are
at an angle of approx. 15° in relation to the
hedge (see Fig. 38).
•
The blades with their twin cutting edges rota-
te in opposite directions to enable cutting in
both directions (see Fig. 39).
•
It is recommended to tie a guide line of string
or the like along the hedge so that you cut the
hedge to a level height. Cut off all branches
which protrude beyond the guide line (see
Fig. 40/41).
•
Cut the sides of the hedge with curve-shaped
movements from the bottom up (see Fig. 42).
8. Cleaning, maintenance and
ordering spare parts
Danger!
Remove the battery pack before doing any
cleaning or maintenance work.
8.1 General information on cleaning
•
Regularly clean the tensioning mechanism by
blowing it out with compressed air or cleaning
it with a brush. Do not use any tools for
cleaning.
•
Keep the handles free of oil so that you can
maintain a firm grip.
•
Never immerse the tool in water or other li-
quids in order to clean it.
•
Use a brush to remove deposits from the sa-
fety guards.
•
Keep all safety devices, air vents and the mo-
tor housing free of dirt and dust as far as pos-
sible. Wipe the tool with a clean cloth or blow
it down with compressed air at low pressure.
•
We recommend cleaning the tool immediately
each time after use.
•
Clean the tool regularly with a damp cloth. Do
