Solar Battery Protection 2.4 W
Item no. 85 38 61
Intended use
The Solar Battery Protection serves to buffer 12V lead accumulators in cars, motorcycles,
boats, tractors, etc. The solar panel converts solar energy to electric energy and provides
a self-sustaining buffer. The charge current is suffi cient to compensate the spontaneous
discharge of lead accumulators. This preserves the current charge state of the accumulator
and prevents overcharging. A locking diode prevents the discharging of the accumulator via the
solar panel in case of insuffi cient solar radiation.
You may not charge any Ni-Cd/lithium accumulators or batteries (zinc-carbon, alkaline, etc.).
Observe the polarity of the output plugs!
The solar battery protection may not be used in vehicles which actively participate in road
traffi c. The charger must be disconnected/unplugged before starting the engine.
Operation is not permitted under unfavourable ambient conditions.
Adverse ambient conditions include:
• Moisture or excessive humidity
• Dust or combustible gases, vapours or solvents
• strong vibrations
Uses other than those described above are not permitted and may damage the product. Misuse
may also lead to risks such as short circuiting, fi re, electrical shocks.
No part of the product may be modifi ed or converted.
The safety instructions must be observed.
Safety instructions
Please read through the operating instructions completely before using the
product for the fi rst time; they include important information necessary for
correct operation.
The guarantee will be rendered null and void if damage is caused as a result
of failure to observe the operating instructions. We will not assume any res-
ponsibility for any consequential damage.
We will also not assume any responsibility for damage to assets or for per-
sonal injury caused by improper handling or failure to observe the safety in-
structions. In such cases the warranty/guarantee will lapse.
To ensure safe operation, the user should comply with the safety instructions and warnings
contained in these operating instructions.
Chargers and accessories should be kept out of the reach of children! They are no toys.
The accident prevention regulations of the relevant trade associations for electrical systems
and operating materials are to be observed in commercial institutions.
In schools, training centres, hobby and self-help groups, the use of chargers and accessories
should be closely supervised by trained personnel.
When charging accumulators, always observe the charging regulations of the accumulator
manufacturer concerned.
Improper handling may destroy the accumulator (wrong polarity) or the panel (dropping). In the
worst case, the accumulator could explode and cause considerable damage. The glass panel
may become damaged when it falls down or is hit by falling objects.
If you have reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, disconnect it
immediately and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- it does not function any longer and
- if it has been stored for long periods of time under unfavourable conditions
- if it has been subject to considerable stress in transit.
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these
operating instructions which is to be observed without fail.
The "hand" symbol indicates special information and advice on operation of the
device.

Version 05/13
Mounting
The solar panel can only provide enough current when it is aligned directly towards the sun.
4 suction cups are enclosed to facilitate the installation. Plug the suction cups into the four
attachment openings (2 on the top and 2 on the bottom) and slide them approx. 5 mm to the
side. Now the suction cups are attached. Moisten the rubber surfaces and press the panel onto
the intended spot. The surface should be clean and smooth (window, etc.).
Connection
Two different adapter are available for connection. The plug connectors are protected against
wrong polarity and only fi t together in the correct polarity. The central contact or the red pole
clamp always corresponds to the plus pole. The external contacts or the black pole clamp
corresponds to the minus pole.
• Adapter plug for the cigarette lighter
• Adapter with pole clamps for direct connection to the lead accumulator (red = plus, black =
minus)
Disposal
Disposal of spent batteries/rechargeable batteries
You, as the end user, are legally obliged (Ordinance on the Return and Disposal of Used Batte-
ries) to return all used batteries. Disposal in the household waste is prohibited!
You will thus carry out your legal obligations and contribute to the protection of our environment.
Technical data
System voltage ............................ 12 V DC (idle 16 - 25 V)
Charge current/output ................... max. 180 mA/max. 2.4 W
Solar panel .................................. Amorph
Length of cable ............................. Approximately 240 cm
Dimensions (L x W x H) ............... approx. 350 x 215 x 13 mm
Weight .......................................... Approximately 740 g
When connecting, always observe the polarity and the charging instructions of the
accumulator manufacturer concerned.
With some vehicles, the socket of the cigarette lighter is only active when the ignition
is turned on. In this case, select the connection with the pole clamps directly on the
accumulator.
Old electronic devices are raw materials and should not be disposed of in
household waste. When the device has become unusable, dispose of it in ac-
cordance with the current statutory regulations at the communal collection points.
Batteries containing hazardous substances are labelled with the symbols shown
to the left. These symbols also indicate that disposal of these batteries in the
household waste is prohibited. The designations for the relevant heavy metals are:
Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return fl at batteries/rechargeable
batteries free of charge to the collection points in your community, our branches or
anywhere else where batteries or rechargeable batteries are sold.
