Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PCI-Slot eines PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und
stellt dort zwei zusätzliche IDE-Controller zur Verfügung.

Konfiguration
Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie den
Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden Fachwerkstatt
durchführen!
Durch unsachgemässen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als auch Ihr
Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den das Produkt eingebaut werden soll und alle
angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte von der
Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Ein-
/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den Gehäusedeckel vor-
sichtig ab.
• Suchen Sie einen freien PCI-Slot und entfernen Sie das zugehörige Slotblech. Stecken Sie
den IDE-Controller in den PCI-Slot und schrauben Sie ihn fest. Kontrollieren Sie, ob die
Steckkarte richtig im Steckplatz sitzt.
Für den Anschluss von UDMA66/100/133-Geräten ist ein spezielles 80poliges IDE-Kabel
erforderlich; zwischen den 40 Signalleitungen dieses Kabels liegt jeweils eine zusätzliche
Masseleitung (verbessert die Signalqualität).
Achten Sie bei 80poligen IDE-Kabeln auf korrekten Anschluss:
Der "Mainboard"-Stecker ist meist blau gefärbt.
Kontrollieren Sie die korrekte Einstellung der "Master"-/"Slave"-Steckbrücken auf den IDE-
Geräten. Bootfähig ist übrigens nur eine als "Master" eingestellte und am "Primary"-
Anschluss des IDE-Controllers angeschlossene Festplatte.
• Schrauben Sie den Computer wieder zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie alle
Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort aus und kontrollieren Sie sämt-

liche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC von der Netzspannung zu trennen, siehe oben!

Treiberinstallation
Nach dem Start des Betriebssystems findet die Hardwareerkennung den IDE-Controller. Legen
Sie die mitgelieferte Treiberdiskette (evtl. könnte anstatt der Diskette bei neueren Versionen
auch eine CD beiliegen) in das entsprechende Laufwerk Ihres PCs ein und folgen Sie allen
Anweisungen von Windows.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Achten Sie auf den korrekten Anschluss der IDE-Kabel. Pin 1 des IDE-Kabels ist farbig mar-
kiert; auf Festplatten und Laufwerken liegt Pin 1 auf der Seite der Strombuchse. Pin 1 auf
dem PCI-IDE-Controller ist markiert, siehe Bild oben.
• Stellen Sie die Steckbrücken für "Master"/"Slave" auf den IDE-Geräten korrekt ein. Pro
40poligen IDE-Controller darf es nur ein "Master"- und ein "Slave"-Gerät geben.
• Wird eine Festplatte und ein CD-ROM-Laufwerk (oder Brenner o.ä.) miteinander an einem
IDE-Kabel betrieben, so sollte die Festplatte auf "Master" und das CD-ROM-Laufwerk auf
"Slave" eingestellt werden. Bei umgekehrter Einstellung wird die Festplatte evtl. nicht
erkannt.
• Voraussetzung für den schnellen UDMA66/100/133-Modus ist die Verwendung von 80poli-
gen IDE-Kabeln; diese verlangen nach korrektem Anschluss der Geräte (s.o.).
• Der IDE-Controller ist auch bootfähig (das Betriebssystem kann über eine am IDE-Controller
angeschlossene Festplatte geladen werden); dies ist aber abhängig vom verwendeten
PC/Mainboard.
Im BIOS/Setup des PCs ist die Boot-Reihenfolge korrekt einzustellen, wenn möglich (z.B. "A,
SCSI, C"). Natürlich ist der IDE-Controller kein SCSI-Controller, im BIOS sollte es korrekter-
weise "Other" heissen.
Bei manchen Mainboard-BIOS-Versionen kann evtl. sogar ein PCI-IDE-Controller als bootfä-
higes Gerät eingestellt werden; bei anderen ist dagegen kein Bootvorgang von einem PCI-
IDE-Controller möglich.
• Das Bündeln der 80poligen IDE-Kabel, damit es im PC "besser aussieht", sollte unterblei-
ben. Die Signale beeinflussen sich gegenseitig, es könnte dadurch zu Fehlübertragungen
kommen, die die maximale Datenrate herabsetzen.
• Eine neue Festplatte muss zuerst mit dem MS-DOS-Befehl "FDISK" partitioniert und dann
mit "FORMAT" formatiert werden, bevor Daten auf ihr gespeichert werden können.
Nach dem Partitionieren ist ein Neustart erforderlich, damit der PC die
Partitionsinformationen korrekt übernehmen kann. Erst dann können die einzelnen
Partitionen formatiert werden.
Achten Sie darauf, dass Sie nicht versehentlich bereits mit Daten "gefüllte" Partitionen einer
anderen Festplatte formatieren und damit löschen!
• Die erste Version von Windows 95 und auch die letzten MS-DOS-Versionen erlauben nur
Partitionen bis max. 2GByte. Verwenden Sie deshalb für größere Partitionen unbedingt
aktuellere Betriebssystemversionen.
Bei Windows 95b (auf der CD steht "...mit USB-Unterstützung"), Windows 98, 98SE, ME und
XP sind Partitionen mit mehr als 2GB möglich (FAT32 bzw. VFAT). Andere aktuelle
Betriebssysteme bieten ebenfalls die Erstellung von Partitionen mit mehr als 2GB an.
• Die Steckbrücke "JP1" hat bei dieser Version des PCI-IDE-Controllers keine Funktion, belas-
sen Sie sie bitte in der Grundeinstellung.

Intended Use
This product is designed for installation in a PCI slot of a PC-compatible computer, where it
provides two additional IDE controllers.

Configuration
Installation
If you do not have any specialist knowledge of installation procedures, please
arrange for the installation to be carried out by SUITABLY QUALIFIED PERSON-
NEL or a suitable specialist shop!
Incorrect installation will damage the plug-in card, your computer and all
connected devices.
Danger of fatal injury!
Switch off the computer in which the power product is to be installed and all
connected devices. Isolate all devices from the mains voltage and disconnect
the power plug. Switching the devices off at the on/off switch is not enough!
• Unscrew the housing of your computer and remove it cautiously.
• Locate a free PCI slot and remove the associated slot plate. Insert the IDE controller in the
PCI slot and tighten it with screws. Verify that the plug-in card is correctly located in the slot.
• A special 80-pin IDE cable is required for connecting UDMA66/100/133 devices. An addi-
tional ground wire has been inserted between each of the 40 signal lines of this cable, which
enhances the signal quality.
• When using an 80-pin IDE cable, make sure you connect it correctly.
In general, the "mainboard" connector is blue.
Check whether the "Master/Slave" jumpers on the IDE devices have been set correctly. Hard
disks are bootable only if they are configured as the "Master" device and connected to the
"Primary" connector of the IDE controller.
• Retighten the screws on the computer housing.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all the devices.
• f your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the settings
and cable connections.
• Before opening the PC, the PC must always be disconnected from the voltage source. See

Installing Drivers
The hardware detection locates the IDE controller after the operating system has been start-
ed. Insert the driver diskette (in the case of new versions, a CD may have been provided
instead) in the corresponding drive of your PC and follow all the instructions issued by win-
dows.
Tips and Hints
• Make sure, the IDE cables are connected correctly. Pin 1 of the IDE cable is colour-coded.
For hard disks and drives, Pin 1 is located on the power-jack side. Pin 1 on the PCI IDE con-
troller is marked, see the figure above.
• Make sure that the "Master/Slave" jumpers on the IDE devices have been set correctly.
There may be only one "Master" and one "Slave" device per 40-pin IDE controller.
• If one hard disk and one CD-ROM drive (or CD writer) are operated on one IDE channel
together, the hard disk should be set to "Master" and the CD-ROM drive to "Slave". If the
setting is the other way around, the hard disk may not be recognized.
• To be able to use the fast UDMA66/100/133 mode, 80-pin IDE cables must be used. Ensure
that the devices are connected correctly (see above).
• The IDE controller is bootable (i.e. the operating system can be booted from a hard disk con-
nected to the IDE controller) but this ultimately depends on the PC/mainboard used.
The correct boot sequence must be set in the BIOS/Setup of the PCs, if possible (e.g. "A,
SCSI, C"). The IDE controller, of course, is not a SCSI controller. For this reason, the correct
setting in the BIOS is "Other".
In some mainboard BIOS versions it may even be possible to configure a PCI IDE controller
as a bootable device. In others, however, booting via a PCI IDE controller is not possible.
• Do not bundle the 80-pin IDE cable to make the inside of the PC "look better". The signals
influence each other and bundling may cause transfer errors that reduce the maximum data
rate.
• A new hard disk must first be partitioned using the MS-DOS command "FDISK" and then for-
matted using the "FORMAT" command before it can store data.
After partitioning the hard disk, you have to restart it to allow the PC to store the partitioning
information correctly. Only then is it possible to format the individual partitions.
Make sure that you do not inadvertently format partitions of another hard disk that already
hold data, or you will delete all the data stored on those partitions!
• The first version of Windows 95 and the latest MS-DOS versions only permit partitions with
a max. capacity of 2 GB. For this reason, you have to use more recent operating system ver-
sions if you want partitions with higher capacities.
In the case of Windows 95b ("...with USB support" is printed on the CD), Windows 98, 98SE,
ME and XP partitions can be larger than 2 GB (FAT32 or VFAT). Other state-of-the-art oper-
ating systems also support partitions with a capacity of more than 2 GB.
• In this version of the PCI IDE controller, the "JP1" jumper has not been assigned any func-
tion. Please leave it in its default setting.
