Setting the rotary encoder
Warning - risk of trapping fingers
If controller release has been deactivated, in
the event of loss of power (e.g. as a result of
pressing the EMERGENCY stop button) or on
exiting from the configuration routine, the
pre-tension of the CAMBox may cause the
flywheel to suddenly start turning. There is
then a risk of fingers becoming trapped in and
crushed by rotating parts (e.g. rotary encoder
coupling).
¶
Never perform any maintenance work on
the power supply system whilst setting the
rotary encoder.
¶
Secure the EPS control unit to prevent
unintentional actuation.
¶
Remove all tools from the hazard zones.
¶
Move the camshaft to bottom dead center
in the event of any interruptions or on exi-
ting from the dialog box.
Procedure:
1. Remove the test bench cover to gain access to the
EPS drive motor.
2. Close the test oil inlet valve.
3. Switch on the EPS converter and the test oil pump
on the EPS control unit.
i
Do not switch on the lubricating oil supply.
4. Release the controller on the control unit.
5. Start the EPS with <F8>. The following message ap-
pears in the system software info line:
reference pulse. Start reference pulse
search with F7 Initialization (n=30 1/
min).
6. Call up the "Angle funct." menu with <F7> and select
the Initialization function.
The EPS drive starts up and performs a calibration
run. The following message appears in the info line
after successful detection of the reference pulse:
CAMBox reference point run active.
CAMBox positioning in 0° circle of
cam for mechanical strain relief.
message disappears following successful initializa-
tion. The EPS drive comes to a halt.

7. Call up the "Angle funct." menu with <F7> and select
the Bottom dead center function.
The EPS drive starts up and the bottom dead cen-
ter position of the camshaft is approached.
8. Call up the "Angle funct." menu with <F7> and select
the Set zero position function.
9. Check whether the screw for the clamp of the rotary
encoder coupling is readily accessible for unfaste-
ning. If not, use <F6> to turn the EPS drive until the
screw is readily accessible for unfastening.
10. Use an Allen key to slacken off the fastening screw
of the clamp. Only unfasten the clamp until the
rotary encoder coupling can just be turned by hand
on the coupling shaft.
