The steel strung guitar is bigger and sounds brighter, carrying a richer supply of
overtones, especially when used with a plectrum.
• To get good results both in the studio and on stage, point the microphone at the
soundhole from approx. 8 in./20 cm.
In a very quiet studio you may even try far miking.
When recording orchestral music, you may often have to mic up quiet and/or solo
instruments with extra near-field ("spot") microphones.
Being a relatively narrow hypercardioid, the C 747 V11 provides a high amount of
separation. This feature in conjunction with its mild presence rise makes the C 747
V11 an excellent spot microphone.
• Place the C 747 V11 where you would place a conventional spot microphone.
• Use a soft cloth moistened with water to clean the microphone body.
